Here & There In BUSINESS fij/O Freund Retires As Postmaster Twic4 Told Tales EVA V. FREUND Eva V. Freund, postmaster at Spring Grove for the past twenty years, has retired. Mrs. Freund assumed charge of the post office May 16, 1953, when it was a third class office. During the years since then, she has taken a great interest in her work and in the McHenry- Boone County Postmasters association, holding the offices of president, secretary and treasurer. She also became a member of the National Association of Postmasters and attended all seminars, training schools and some of the con ventions. In 1962 the building formerly occupied by the Spring Grove State bank was remodelled according to post office specifications and was then utilized as a post office with a great improvement in space and facilities. Coincidentally, Mrs. Freund had been em ployed in the same building as assistant cashier when it was a bank in 1930. Effective July 1,1963 the post office advanced to second class. To date, it is still a second class office with two rural routes and five em ployees. Mrs. Freund was honored at a retirement dinner party arranged by members of the McHenry Boone County association and her employees. Fifty-five people were present. Represented were district officials of the National association, county post masters and their wives, retired postmasters from the area, her employees and members of her family. She was presented a gift, an engraved plaque, a bouquet of flowers, a red rose corsage and a beautifully decorated cake which was served. The ceremony after dinner and the congratulatory speeches were a fine tribute to her many years of devoted service to the public.
