/ Garden Club To Make Botanic Gardens Tour Members and guests of the McHenry Garden club will be entertained at the home of Miss Mary Burdahl in Wilmette, Thursday, Aug. 23. Each member and guest is requested to bring her own sandwich, and a dessert luncheon will be served promptly at noon. Miss Burdahl has arranged a tour of the Botanic Gardens of the Chicago Horticultural society in Glencoe at 2 p.m. The Botanic Gardens has ex­ perimental gardens with plantings of grasses, trees, vegetables and flowers adaptable to this area. Questions will be answered concerning any problems in gardening. The Botanic Gar­ dens are being developed to be of help in landscaping and gardens throughout the nor­ thern area of the state of Illinois. The McHenry Garden club has an unique opportunity to observe and learn many interesting lessons in gar­ dening. Members and guests will meet promptly at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 23 at the Roller Rink on Front street. Deaths ERNAS. JOHNSON Mrs. Erna S. Johnson, 70, 4812 Chesterfield drive, died Thursday, Aug. 9, at McHenry hospital. She was born in Copenhagen, Denmark, June 23, 1903. The deceased had been a resident of Whispering Oaks for four years, moving here from Palatine. She had worked as a pink lady at McHenry hospital. Survivors include her husband, Bruce O., to whom she had been married for forty- eight years; one daughter, Mrs. James (Barbara May) Wright of Columbus, Ohio. BIRTH NOTES MEMORIAL HOSPITAL WOODSTOCK Mr. and Mrs. Norman Danko became parents of their second daughter, Aug. 6 Deanna Lynn weighed 8 lbs., 2 oz. and has a sifter, Dawn Renay, 6 years old. Her maternal grand­ parents are Mr. and Mrs. John Parbst of Justice and the paternal ones are Mr. and Mrs. William Danko of McHenry. MCHENRY HOSPITAL Mr. and Mrs. John Goza became parents of a son, Aug. 8. On Aug. 10 a daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Philip Schoen, Jr., Spring Grove. The body rested at the Peter M. Justen and Son funeral home until Saturday when services were held at 1:30 p.m. Interment was in Windridge cemetery, Cary. ROY C. THOMPSON Roy C. Thompson, 88, of Footville, Wis., formerly of Richmond, died Thursday morning, Aug. 9, at Caravilla nursing home, Janesville. Mr. Thompson was born July 16,1885, in Spring Grove, son of Robert and Lucy Stevens Thompson. For many years he farmed, jretiring in 1957. On June 5, 1912, he was married in Mitchell, South Dakota, to Octa Schmidt, who died Nov. 13, 1968. He is sur­ vived by one daughter, Mrs. Eldon (Octavia) Olson of Footville, Wis. One sister and two brothers preceded him in death. Funeral services were held last Saturday at the Ehorn- Adams chapel, Richmond, with the Rev. Richard Monson of­ ficiating. Burial was in Cole cemetery, Spring Grove. Good for January apd February - that is one time when you can find plenty picnic tables at the park.
