POET'S CORNER High Military Rank To o Former hocal Pastor SffW WHAT? T H I S W E E K S P A T T E R N 8 THE CLASP OF FRIENDSHIP If I clasp your hand in friendship and look deep into your eyes, If I give my pledge to stand by you Thru troubles and heartaches and trials. If I say to you, I shall be truthful No matter what ever betide. If I say to you I shall be faithful Tho the whole world casts you aside. You may come to me burden with troubles I shall try to lighten your load. Lifting from your heart its heartaches, Giving joy before there was woe. You may tell me your inner most secrets, Laying bare to me your soul. You may cast aside all of pretenses in that ever far reaching of goals. You may measure the waters that fill the ocean And the height from Heaven as well. For who of us can say what makes a friend Who of us can really tell? Friendship is like Love, neither can you define, Tis' a treasure for just two to share. Locked deep in the chest of sweet mystery Nether one of Its secrets do bare. (In dedication to all of many friends at McHenry hospital.) Estelle Harmon Baldwin LIFE AFTER DEATH (by Maria Heiser) How far is the moon away from us? How far are the stars away? How high is the sky above? How long are we on earth to stay? For all those questions... there is no answer. For our life is in God's own hand with our invention and discovery. Life and death, will always be for us still a great and deep mystery... We can control the human mind, how long one can live here on earth. But is there nothing and no answer we will ever find... How life is really, after death? Is there for us an eternal life, after we have to leave from here? Is there a soul in our heart which really does survive, and do we no longer know any fear? Is there a soul? Does it escape when our heart is standing still? Where do we go, if we lived with faith? Do we have to follow God's will? If there would be no judgment over us and our human body would just turn into dust then I think, life is not worth living and we should end it, when we are born. Why should we suffer in silence, share happy moments because it would just be a play on stage and when death comes, a curtain is just torn... Life must have a deeper meaning for everyone of us Our belief in God and eternal Life.. is His promise... and in His word, we must put our trust. ************** Christine Adams Community Dinner Guest Calendar ** $ ****** $ * ifc AUGUST 17 St. Margaret Chapter NAIM Meeting - Oak Room, St. Mary's - 7:30 p.m. AUGUST 19 McHenry Lions Club Picnic - Camp Lions, Lake Villa - Members Meet At McHenry Market Place No Later Than 12 Noon. Announcement was made last week that he has been promoted to Colonel in the U.S. Air Force. Ordained in 1952, he has served as a military chaplain for the past seventeen years. Father McGowan returned last fall from an overseas assignment as senior chaplain in Ankara, Turkey. He is now chief of the plans professional division for the Cpmmand Chaplain's office at Headquarters Strategic Air command, Offutt Air Force base, Neb. This twelve-member council represents more than 1,400 Army, Navy, Veterans ad ministration and Air Force Catholic chaplains and an estimated 2,000,000 Catholic military personnel and their families. I am a 16 year- old girl and I liked this certain guy. He always told my friends he liked me when they would ask him. He would come see me dur ing lunch break at school, and he always put his arm around me and held my hand. He walked home with me after school every day. But lately, everything has been different. He never speaks to me anymore unless I speak to him first. Recently he told one of my friends that he only liked me as a friend. I asked him if he only likes me as a friend why did he put his arm around me and hold my hand. He said he always did that. One day another of my friends told him about me going out with another guy. He told her he didn't like me going out with this other guy. My friends think he likes me, but I think he is just trying to deny that he liked me. Now when I talk to him he turns his head and ignores me. What should I do? OUR REPLY: Ignore him and start looking for someone else is what we suggest. If he really likes you, he'll come back to you, especially if he sees you going out with other guys. If he doesn't like you anymore, at least your meeting new guys, going out and having fun, instead of worrying about him. Thought For Food Mushrooms In Salads One of the most delectable salad ingredients being discov ered by more and more home- makers is thinly sliced fresh mushrooms. Just rinse them brief ly and slice. (You don't peel modern cultivated mushrooms!) While their texture is crisp and crunchy, they are porous so that they blot up salad dressing in a most appetizing fashion. It's a good idea to marinate the sliced mushrooms in dressing a half hour before you add the leafy greens and toss the whole salad for serving. You can use fresh mushrooms in almost any non-sweet salad: in a well-seasoned antipaste kind of appetizer salad; in the leafy green of mixed vegetable dinner salads which can be served either before, with or after the roast; in a protein- rich chef's salad and, artistically arranged, in aspic-type party salads. Mushrooms also are low in calories -- under 100 per pound! The Greater Fox Valley Pharmacy association hosted a floor- by-floor tour of the pharmacy units at McHenry hospital re cently .Guests from Aurora, Elgin, DeKalb, Sandwich, Geneva, DuPage, and Del Nor hospitals attended. Participants included, from left, Mrs. Mary Beth Zieglowsky, Wonder Lake; and Miss Kathleen Doran, Ringwood, pharmacy technicians at McHenry hospital. (DON PEASLEY STAFF PHOTO) When the goal of a person or a country is the pursuit of pleasure and comfort, there is danger ahead. Resolutions are the blossom, actions are the fruit. There's no satisfactory substitute for brains and ability -- but silence does mighty well. The richest man is the one who finds pleasures in everyday duties. The vast majority of humans die poor and unknown, not because of poor intentions, but because of poor executions. Troubles, like salesmen, enter only by invitation usually.
