They repeated their vows before the Rev. Edmund Petit at 3 o'clock afternoon services in a church decorated with bouquets of white gladioli, pom poms and carnations. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Lawson of 3810 W. John street, McHenry. and her bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Heard, Sr., of 1911 Sunnyside Beach drive, McHenry Soloist Terry Huck and organist, Mrs. Katie Guzzardo, p r e s e n t e d m u s i c a l arrangements of "Walk Through This World," "Sunrise, Sunset," "Ave Maria," "Where Is Love," "Somewhere" and "If I Loved You." The bride wore a formal length white gown fashioned with a Nottingham lace bodice accented with tiny buttons, semi-full skirt banded and ruffled at the hemline with matching lace and full lantern sleeves with deep lace cuffs. Her full length mantilla was trimmed with a wide band of matching lace. Four sisters of the bride served as her attendants. Diane Lawson was maid of honor and Linda and Donna Lawson and Nancy Tobias, all of McHenry, were bridesmaids. Little Kristine Woody of Lake Villa served as flower girl. The attendants were attired in floor length gowns of aqua and white floral voile featuring white bodices enhanced with aqua daisies and sheer long sleeves. The maid of„honor wore a similar gown in yellow. Each wore a wide brimmed white hat with matching trim. They carried white baskets of white, yellow and aqua daisy pomps, carnations and baby's breath. Steve Hammer of Pierpont, S.D., served as best man. Groomsmen were John Heard, Don Mayer and Kurt Mayer, all of McHenry. Patrick Loescher of Mauston, Wis., a cousin of the bride, was ringbearer. Looks like funny business, t' this ol' lady, that folks in control o' our economy can't come up wi' better management. Takes a woman t' figger out how t' manage th' food bill, an' they're th' ones carin' about how th' younguns eat. Mebbe it might be better t' length gown of aqua with satin ruffles at the neckline and cuffs and wore a white cymbidium orchid corsage. The bridegroom's mother wore a white lace modified halter dress with inlaid blue daisies and a white orchid corsage. Immediately following the ceremony, a reception for 250 guests was held at the American Legion hall, McHenry. Joyce Heard cir­ culated the guest book at the reception. Upon their return from a honeymoon trip to Florida, the young couple plan to makfc their home at Huron, S.D. The young people graduated from MCHS, the bride in 1971 and the groom in 1970. The new Mrs. Heard will be employed at a day care center in Huron. (Clara) Miller, better known as "Monie" to her guests, was honored at a gathering held at her home on Waukegan street Tuesday, Aug. 14, on the oc­ casion of her eighty-second birthday. Parenthood Classes Offered At Hospital Bert Hanson, administrator of Memorial Hospital for McHenry County, has an­ nounced prospective mothers and fathers are invited to the two sessions of "Preparation for Parenthood" beginning Monday evening, Sept. 10. Second session will be Monday, Sept 17. Both classes will start at 7:30 p.m. "Early announcement is made now so that parents-to-be can obtain the routine per­ mission slip to attend from their family physician," Hanson explained. "In the previous sessions, many fathers-to-be attended in ad­ dition to prospective mothers. We are pleased with the in­ terest in this program." The program is presented by Memorial Hospital for McHenry County in cooperation with members of the medical staff and the hospital staff. Each session will include movies and talks and no charge of any kind is involved. Films shown have been purchased by the Woman's auxiliary as a permanent part of the hospital's educational and public relations tools. The films are: "Prenatal Care," "Normal Delivery," and "Labor and Delivery." A member of the medical staff will lead the discussion on pre-natal care and on labor and delivery. Mrs. Fran Scholpp, R.N., OB supervisor, will take part in the program. Included in the class schedule is a tour of the hospital's maternity department. Card Party For Next Senior Citizens Meet The program for the McHenry Senior Citizens club meeting Monday evening, Aug. 27, will be a card party for members, with prizes for the winners at each table. Many of the members were very happy with their award ribbons and from the comments the exhibition next year should be much larger. Many were very enthusiastic, hoping to produce even bigger and better things to display. Social Chairlady Helen Strandquist announced the annual fall smorgasbord for members will be Monday, Sept. 24, with dinner at 6:30, followed by a most interesting program by Joan Walker, hypnotist. Tickets will be on sale at the next meeting and will be sold strictly on a first-come - first- served basis. The tours fill very rapidly. Those interested in the trip to New Salem Sept. 12 or the bus trip to the loop Sept. 26 should make reservations im­ mediately with Louise Giel. Also the trip to Horicon Marsh, Oct. 10 should be very in­ teresting and enjoyable. Honor Couple At Surprise Farewell Mr. and Mrs. Tony Cagnoni of Dutch Creek Woodlands were surprised last Saturday night at a farewell party planned by friends. The Cagnoni family is moving the first week in September to Coral Springs, Fla., where Mr. Cagnoni has been transferred in his employment. Hosting the party wer& Mr. and Mrs. Bob Hopp, in whose home it was held, and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Dust. About forty persons attended from Highland Park, Spring Grove, Chicago, Island Lake, Richmond, Deerfield and McHenry. They enjoyed a buffet supper, swimming and visiting. A huge cake in the shape of the state of Florida was the centerpiece on the serving table. The Cagnonis are. leaving McHenry after a residence of five years. Mrs. Cagnoni said the hosts called the party a surprise but she calls it "un­ forgettable". The couple received many gifts. MR. AND MRS. OSCAR BERGGREN WED 50 YEARS -- The children of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Berggren, 4403 Sussex drive, will host an open house in honor of their parents' golden wedding anniversary. It will be held from 2 to 5 o'clock Sunday, Aug. 26, at the McHenry Country club. Florence and Oscar Berggren, who were married in Chicago Aug. 23, 1923, have resided locally for the past three years. They have one son, Leslie, of Boulder, Colo., two daughters, Mrs. Charles Siebe of Car- michael, Calif., and Mrs. William Van Wormer of Yorbalinda, Calif.; also six grandchildren, two of whom will be present for the celebration. About 100 relatives and friends are expected to attend, including guests from Wisconsin and Florida. Anne Elliott Feted Recently At Bridal Shower Miss Anne Elliott was guest of honor at a bridal shower held recently at the K. of C. hall, with Mrs. Elmer Gorham as hostess. The miscellaneous shower brought together forty guests from McHenry, Woodstock, Chicago and Kankakee. Favors at the table were blue, white and orchid pin cushions in the form of hats, and nut cups and table decorations in the same colors. Kitchen Band Performs At Nursing Home Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 15, the McHenry Senior Citizens club kitchen band visited the Genoa City Highland Nursing home at Genoa City, Wis., and gave a very lively and en­ tertaining program. The audience was very en­ thusiastic, and expressed a hope that the band would return again soon and give another performance. At the conclusion of the program, refreshments were served which gave the band members another chance to visit with the residents. The ladies of the banfl were very happy to receive so many compliments on their "uniform" dresses. Many requests for programs have had to be turned down because of no piano available and many of the dates have already been scheduled. NIKIFLACKS Niki Flacks has returned to New York after two busy weeks in the McHenry county area. The fourth of five visits scheduled for the Affiliate Artist was filled with planning sessions, drama and public speaking workshops, and "informances." Niki Flacks, Broadway and television actress, is one of forty artists in the nation who take their art to an audience in the form of free lecture per­ formances. This visitation program is coordinated by Affiliate Artists, Inc., a non­ profit New York based concern. The Woodstock Fine Arts association, the Illinois Arts council, the National En­ dowment for the Arts, and the Sears-Roebuck foundation sponsor Miss Flacks. A highlight of Niki's visit was her appearance before the students enrolled in the sum­ mer theatre program. Both age groups, the 7 through 11 year- olds, had special work sessions with Niki in the Opera House. Other continuing programs for in-depth work with elementary, junior high school, and high school students were discussed with participating teachers. Niki will return to Woodstock in the middle of October to present three performances, one to be a benefit at the Opera House, and to close her first year as an Affiliate Artist.
