LARRY E. LUND PUBLISHER (Pub. Sept. 14,1973) R.L. Schroyer Appointed To Health Staff John G. Garrett, president of Comprehensive Health Planning Agency for McHenry County, has announced that the board of directors of that agency has hired Robert Li1 Schroyer for the staff position in this area. Prior to Schroyer's employment, the respon sibilities of carrying out the obligations of CHPA for McHenry county have been handled by the volunteer members, committee and task force members and by one staff person on loan from Operation Health, Inc., Aurora. Schroyer is coming to McHenry county well qualified as a planner. He is a candidate for the degree of Master of City Planning in May, 1974, from the Graduate School of Fine Arts, University of Pennsylvania. He is unmarried and though presently living in Oswego, Illinois, he plans to relocate to McHenry county. According to the personnel guidelines of Comprehensive Health Planning, Schroyer will be accountable to Garrett and the board of directors of the county group for his day-to-day activities, as well as to the executive director of Operation Health, Inc. He will assist all committees and Task Forces of CHPA, coordinate the ac tivities of CHPA and Operation Health, represent the McHenry county agency at meetings in the area as requested by the board, and generally inform,, the over-all community as to the goals and objectives of CH PA until an office is set-up for Schroyer in the area, he can be contaced through the Operation Health offices in Aurora. Mr. Garrett has also made the announcement that there is a need for two additional consumer board members of CHPA for McHenry county. By definition, a consumer member is one who is a user of health services, but does not work at, or earn a living from, providing those services. This is in order to keep the professional medical people and organizations apprised of the health needs of the community as seen by the consumers. Garrett will welcome any suggestions for the filling of these vacancies. Catechetical Week Is Observed Sept. 16-23 Bishop Arthur O'Neill has designated Sept. 16 through 23 as Catechetical week in his Rockford diocese. Catholics see it as a needed opportunity to focus on what the ministry of the word means in the Christian life, particularly in the life of adult members of the faith community today. The week is built around the response of the community to Jesus' question that looms bigger than ever today: "And who do you say that I am?" Everybody is faced with what his response is going to mean in terms of his personal relationship to Christ and His message. St. Patrick's parish is doing three things in particular to highlight the week. On Sunday, Sept. 16 at 9:45 a.m. Mass, will be the commission ceremony for teachers. Parents and teachers alike will meet at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18, in the church hall to participate in an interesting program entitled, "How we got from where we were to where we are today." To every home in the parish is being mailed a survey, the response to which will help in the planning of programs for the months ahead. Cathectical week is intended to focus attention on what the really important work of the church is. Bishop O'Neill is especially interested in his people being involved in adult religious education programs. OPEN TO THE PUBLIC Education foundation by making pledges. In the reporting parishes, the largest percentage of increase over the past week was reported by Sacred Heart in Marengo. Father Ryan reported $6,000 in new pledges to bring the parish total to $30,613. This represents 70.8 percent toward the parish objective of $43,000. Father Ryan anticipates that his parish will successfully realize its goal. St. Mary's in McHenry reported the largest dollar gain for the week. Under the direction of Father Eugene C. Baumhofer, pastor, and parish co-chairmen, George P. Freund and Clarence Young, forty workers reported $15,859 in new pledges. To date, 60 percent of the parish goal has been raised. "This shows what the dedication and involvement of a concerned few can ac complish," stated Father Baumhofer. "Our workers have been making visits to their fellow parishioners ex plaining the facts about the foundation. The response has been most gratifying." St. Thomas parish in Crystal Lake now stands at 57.4 percent of its goal. Father Ambre's parish reported $148,245 in pledges. This is the largest amount raised in any of the fourteen parishes to date. This is a gain of $12,620 over last week's figure. St. John the Baptist in Johnsburg reported $9,000 in new pledges during the one- week period. "This marks a substantial increase in activity for the parish," noted parish leadership. "As more and more parishioners are being visited the project takes on new en thusiasm and momentum." St. Mary's in Woodstock, with the second largest goal and after three weeks of active visits, has raised $45,000 in pledges. This represents gifts from only 48 parishioners.
