Holiday Hills Karen Kottke 385-6675 Club Donates Some Proceeds To Charity The September meeting of the Holiday Hills Women's club was held at the Mahon residence on Birch street on Sept. 12. The minutes from the June meeting were read. The ways and means committee, Pat Hughes and Penny Appleyard, suggested that some of the proceeds from the special project held July 15 be donated to a charity. Since the Women's club has profited from previous enterprises the membership voted to contribute to area charities. Committees are being formed to investigate the v a r i o u s c h a r i t a b l e organizations in the area. Two of the organizations mentioned for immediate attention were the Lake Region Rescue Squad and Pioneer Center for the Aged. The Women's Club is plan ning a Christmas bazaar sometime in November. They will need to enlist the aid of the entire membership on this venture. Committees are now being formed for the bazaar. If anyone has any idea for creations for the bazaar, or would like to head a committee or work on a committee for the bazaar please contact one of our ways and means committee members. Think Christmas! Bring your ideas and han dicrafts to the attention of the club so that their bazaar will be a success. Volunteers for the November kick-off dinner were called for. It was suggested that a pot-luck dinner would be appropriate this year. If anyone wishes to get involved in the November dinner planning please attend the October meeting. Our entertainment com mittee, Joan Cornwell and Mimi DeWitt, passed out fliers door-to-door for this meeting. They persuaded Sally Carroll, Pat Bruyn and Glenna Kessler to attend the meeting. These ladies are new to the area and hopefully they will become members of Women's Club in the near future. The membership voted to support the Girl Scouts and Brownie troops again this year. The evening servers were Jo Janik and Eleanor Brasser We would like to extend our gratitude to Mr. and Mrs. Fred Stout for a fascinating program of slides and commentary on their trip to the Amazon jungle of South America. WEEKEND CAMPING TRIP As the warm summer weather stayed with us for another weekend several of last year's bowling couples spent the weekend camping in Wisconsin. Bob and Bonnie Kellen and Marge and Jack Connell were two of the couples to enjoy the weekend at Lakeland Camp and Trailer Park in Milton Junction, Wis. The crmpsite is on Koshkonog lake, which is reportedly Wisconsin's second largest lake. They enjoyed water skiing, boating and although it was too cold to swim a few brave souls dared. On Saturday night everyone enjoyed the entertainment of a live band. The weekend ended all too soon and they all had to return to the realities of home and family. GIRL SCOUT NEWS Registration for Girl Scouting will be on Tuesday, Sept. 25, at 7 p.m. at the The Bible Speaks Virgfe L Chappell, Pastor First Baptist Church, McHenry CONFESSING JESUS CHRIST "Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess before my Father which is in heaven". These were the words of instruction to the twelve apostles given by Jesus Christ as He sent them out to prepare cities for his own coming. Dr. Kenneth S. Wuest in Word Studies, vol. 3 presents an interesting insight on this scripture verse. The word, "confess" is the translation of the Greek word which means "to say the same thing". We usually think to confess to Christ is to reveal to Him our own hidden sin. We think we are to tell Him about some breach of Commandment which we com mitted while we were somewhere away from God. Our concept is usually, Jesus Christ is in heaven (somewhere far away) and we are here and therefore when God says, "who did it?" we must own up and say, "It was me!" But the concept in this scripture is that God already knows "who did it." He is not searching around to find the guilty one. He already knows! Therefore, the true concept of "confess" is ac tually to "agree with God" or to "say the same thing" with him that, "It is me." This thought that God already knows who did it, is not so amazing when we understand that, "all have sinned and come short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23). The all inclusive in volvement in sinful separation from God is seen in Isaiah's com ment, "All we like sheep have gone astray" (Isaiah 53:6). God knows us; after all, it is He that made us. Would God not know in every intimate way the inner working " every man? Therefore, we are commanded to "confess" (agrt; with God). The Biblical directive is, "He that covers his sin shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy" (Proverbs 28:13). We should not carry guilt for sin, but confess it and forsake it. Then we can be assured of God's blessing upon us. The Apostle John commends us to "walk in the light" (I John 1:7). Walking in the light is to have sin confessed and forgiven. One is to walk in openness before God and man. John assures us that "if we confess (say the same thing) our sins (to Jesus Christ) he is faithful and just to forgive us our sitis and to cleanse us of all unrighteousness" (I John l:Q). When we are cleansed of all unrighteousness, we will not hesitate to "walk in the light" or in openness before God and man. This cleansing or forgiveness comes about through a marvelous medium - the Blood of Jesus Christ. No one but God knows how, but "The Blood of Jesus Christ cleanseth us from all sin" (I John 1:7b) (also Hebrews 9:22). Nothing To Do ?
