1970 Open Champ Al Bailey Winner At Pinecrest PAGE 7 - PLAINDEALER - WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 26. 1973 Al Bailey, 1970 Illinois Open Champion, putted his way to victory in the first annual Pinecrest Golf Classic held at Pinecrest Golf and Country Club in Huntley on Friday, September 14. Bailev birdied the 18th hole to force a playoff with Dick Hart,-former Azalea Open Champion on the P.G.A. tour, who had finished the tournament at 71, one under par. On the first extra hole of sudden death, botkBailey and Hart reached the green on their Winners of the Most Outstanding Player award as chosen by teammates on the respective teams, receive recognition at the McHenry County Farm Bureau post-season party for Sports Festival participants last week. (DON PEASLEY PHOTO) MCHS Harriers Beat Zion And North Chicago By Dick Rabbitt Coach "Hutch's" McHenry High Cross Country team easily defeated Zion and North Chicago at Zion last Thursday evening. The Warriors defeated Zion 18 to 43 and North Chicago 15 to 50. John Mclnenery was the winner, in both meets, followed by John Earnings who finished 2nd. The sophs also won both meets, defeating Zion 18 to 40 and North Chicago 15 to 50. Greg O'Halleran was the winner, Oakley second and Himplemann was third for the young Warriors. To make it a complete sweep the freshmen also won, defeating Zion 18 to 45, and North Chicago 16 to 47. Pushers: McKay 7; Stanek 8. North Chicago: Stillwell 5. Deaths CHRISTINA ROTHERMEL Mrs. Christina Rothermel, 90, of 3718 W. Grand avenue, McHenry, died Sept. 23 in the Pistakee Bay home. Mrs. Rothermel was born Oct. 25, 1882, in Johnsburg and was a lifelong resident of the community. She was the widow of Joseph Rothermel, who operated a boat company in the city for many years. The deceased was a member of the Royal Neighbors of America Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. P.H. (Florence) Billeter of McHenry , four sons, William and Ray of McHenry, Loren of St. Petersburg,^ Fla., and James of McHenry; six grandchildren and eight great­ grandchildren. A funeral Mass will be of­ fered at 10 o'clock Wednesday in St. Mary's Catholic church, with burial in the church cemetery. LUCILLE BROSTEK A noon Mass will be offered Wednesday in St. Mary's Catholic church for Lucille Brostek, 61, of 5001 Park View, McHenry, who died Sept. 24 in McHenry hospital. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mrs. Brostek was born Sept. 12, 1912, in Chicago. She is survived by her husband, Stanley; two sons, John M. and Robert W., both of Chicago; two sisters, Mrs. Harriett Wisner of Mount Prospect and Mrs. John (Ella) Lewandowski of 'Chicago, and one brother, George Franczak, of Colorado. The body rested at the George R. Justen & Son chapel until the time of last rites. McHenry Cross Country Team Wins Invitational CROSS COUNTRY TEAM WINS INVITATIONAL By Dick Rabbitt Winning the Grant-Crystal Lake Invitational Meet is becoming a habit for Coach BiU Hutchinson's "Running Warriors". Last Saturday they won the meet for the fourth time in the past five years. In this meet each boy runs with his own class. Therefore the combined scores of Freshmen, Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors determine the winner. The Warriors total of 375 was outstanding, when you see the caliber of competition. Hersey, 2nd place winner in the state, was runnerup to the Warriors. ROSET PHOL Mrs. Rose Phol, 70^ 4401 Front Royal, WhisperingjOaks, died Sept. 23 at her home of an apparent heart attack. Born in Chicago Aug. 15,1903, the daughter of the late Joseph and Julia Iwinski Luczak, she had lived in Whispering Oaks for about six years, coming from Arlington Heights. Her husband, John Phol, preceded her in death on Jan. 15, 1973. Among her survivors are two daughters, Sister Mary Rosaire, Sisters of Mercy, Brooklyn, N.Y., and Mrs. Fred (Loretto) Composto, Ringwood, N.J.; three grand­ children; four brothers, Walter, Libertyville, Frank and Casey of Chicago, Stanley, Arlington Heights; two sisters, Mrs. William (Marie) Mallecke, Chicago, and Mrs. Charles (Lucille) Lewis, Onieda, N.Y. Visitation was scheduled for Tuesday at 3 p.m. at the Peter M Justen and Son funeral home. A funeral Mass will be offered Wednesday morning at ll o'clock at St. Patrick's church with interment in All Saints cemetery, DesPlaines.
