he OUNCIL REDUCES EWER HOOK-UP FEES (Continued from page l) We have to look at what has en done before and we have make a judgment," he essed. Based on discussions esented, Alderman Pepping t, "We don't have a clear cut >w of how this is actually ing to affect the city finan- illy. I'm not on (me side or the ler but I feel I don't have ough facts before me to make good decision." Mayor Standi reviewed past vents on this problem and ommented, "I never said I as for a $50 sewer hook-up fee the special assessment rea. I never said I would give sewer free to Lakeland ark." But," he stressed, "I lid say in front of 300 people rom Whispering Oaks, that people in Lakeland Park did jeserve some consideration. If we reduce house hook-up fees and raise apartment fees, we could swing it." In other action, the council agreed to update sewer hook-up fees for apartment buildings to $250 for each unit. Fees had been $250 for the first unit and $50 for every unit after that. It was the consensus of opinion that apartment dwellers use the sewer system the same as families and should pay equally. In many cases, the number of people in an apart ment unit is the same as in single family homes and usage of the sewer system is the same. The new rate would become effective ten days after publication. The council approved the establishment of a charge for laundromats using city sewer system but not the water. All laundromats in the city would be checked and an average will be figured to determine a reasonable rate to charge per machine. The matter was tabled until the next meeting when figures would be presented for the council's approval. Mayor Stanek authorized the water and sewer committee to pursue the question of acquisition of the Lakeland Park Water System. The council voted unanimously to amend the city ordinance to conform exactly to the state statute which allows nineteen year olds to drink beer and wine. Following a lengthy discussion on rezoning the Edgar property at McHenry Savings and Loan from B-2 to B-l as recommended by the" McHenry Zoning Board of Appeals, aldermen decided to defer action until such time as they can meet with Edgar and present their questions. The main bone of contention seemed to be that since the zoning ordinance restricting the height of buildings was removed from the code, some questioned just how high the proposed "hi-rise twin towers" would be. Some wanted to keep McHenry a "low profile town". Wilbert Hecht and his at torney Marshall Segal ap peared at the meeting and both addressed the council. They requested the name of the person or persons who madr the special assessments in Lakeland Park. They also asked for information which had been requested at previous meetings. Segal remarked that he had checked court records in an attempt to obtain in formation. Mayor Stand; explained to Segal that a letter had been sent to Hecht with all the in formation he asked for. He . showed a copy of the letter to Segal and informed him that John Looze continues to handle the Lakeland Park special assessment project. Segal was told to contact Looze at his office for any additional in formation. Stanek concluded by saying "The questions being posed here are redundant and we have wasted enough time on it". In other business, the bid of Buss Ford was accepted to furnish a squad car at a price of $2,940. Other bids received were from Payton Chevrolet at $3,050; Sunnyside Dodge at $3,427 and Mitchell Buick at $3,396.10. The council also authorized purchase and in stallation of three spotlights for police department squad cars. The council approved a three- year lease with Dr. William Nye for use of a parking lot behind the stores on the east side of Green street at a cost of $300 a month. They also agreed to meter 12 parking spaces at a parking lot at the rear of stores on the west side of Riverside drive. Dan Kinnerk appeared in behalf of a snowmobile club and asked what the city's rules were in regard to snowmobiles crossing a portion of city property if the owner of the property gave his approval. Since the city has no such rules, Stanek instructed the parks committee to meet with Kin nerk and other interested snowmobile clubs to work out a recommendation. Supt. of Public Works Fred Meyer reported that plans for a water main extension which runs south of Route 120 from the city park westward is progressing. The water ex tension will accommodate a Kentucky Fried Chicken establishment which is planned for that area. Alderman Jack Pepping related that the Jaycee Auxiliary has agreed to handle plans for a Halloween party for all children of the city. Full details will appear in this paper in the coming weeks. The following bills were approved for payment to Kuch and Ingram, Inc., as soon as money becomes available: Trunk sewer, $38,471.68 (eligible for HUD grant); Lakeland Park Special assessment area - $33,039.28, (eligible for HUD grant); $32,874.31, (ineligible for HUD grant). Also to Illinois Hydraulic construction com pany, Lakeland Park pumping station, $14,400. MUSIN" N' MEANDERIN" (Continued from page 1) short.
