Barrington Knocks Our McHenry Harriers Out Of Undefeated Ranks PAGE 9 - PLAINDEALER-FRIDAY, OCTOBER 12, 1973 By Dick Rabbitt Coach Bill Hutchinson's "Running Warriors" lost to Barrington in a battle of the undefeateds. The score was 19 to 38. Barrington also defeated Crystal Lake 20 to 43. McHenry hung the second defeat of the day on Crystal Lake by a score of 20 to 43. Once again the winner was Bill Santino, Crystal Lake's fine runner. He ran the three mile distance in the time of 16:03. The next 9 finishers were as follows: 2 Bergen, Barr 16:30 3. Semcken, Barr 17:30 On the sophomore level Barrington defeated McHenry 26 to 29 and Crystal Lake 15 to 47. McHenry defeated Crystal Lake 15 to 50. Dowling of Barrington was the winner, followed by Oakley of McHenry. In the freshmen meet McHenry won a pair, defeating Crystal Lake 27 to 28 and Barrington 19 to 42. The young Marian team displayed a crunching ground attack and a hard-nosed defense to notch the sixth straight win and their third straight in conference play. Quarterback Jay Craig again led the offense to four scores and threw a 25 yard TD pass to Kevin Kelley. Scoring on the ground was Paul LeBlanc (Crystal Lake) on an eighteen yard run, Mike Gibbons (Wonder Lake) on a one yard plunge, and Dave Crook (Wonder Lake) on a 56 yard dash to paydirt The game was costly for the young Hurricnaes as they lost 200 pound tackle Jim Bennett with a broken foot. Bennett had been a stalwart in the forward wall for the Canes and will be missed for the remainder of the season. The next action for the Freshmen is against Marmion (Aurora) on Monday at Marian Central. Game time is 4 p.m. Globetrotter's Bobby- Milton Visits Plaindealer In an interview at the covered eighty-nine countries Plaindealer office Monday an^ six continents. morning, Bobby Milton of Chicago told an interesting story of the Harlem Globe Trotters. Following graduation from Anderson college, An­ derson, Ind., which he attended on a basketball scholarship, Milton played for 18 years with the famous team, and now is employed in public relations. He coached the team for 5 years and has been associated with the Trotters for 25 years. The well known team will appear at West Campus Monday evening, Oct. 15. They have nine players, featuring Prince Hubert (Geese) Ausbie, the court jester, and player- coach Marques Haynes, who will put on a dribbling exhibition. The Globe Trotters are now starting their forty-eighth season. While Mr. Milton has been with them, they have COURSES IN JUDO, YOGA The Lake Region YMCA, 7350 S. Route 31, is offering a series of special interest courses for men, women, boys and girls starting the week of October 22. The courses are open to all Lake Region YMCA members and are held on a fee basis. Special courses for adults in­ clude Scuba, diving, judo, yoga and many others. For further information, phone 459-4455, or stop in for a free brochure. Y-SWIM TEAM The "Y" will have a swim team for girls and boys from 7 to 17 years of age. These two teams will com­ pete in the Chicagoland North and Northwest Cluster League against various YMCA teams. Practice begins in December with practice twice a week. All dual meets will be on Satur­ days, and parents may watch their sons and daughters in action. The team competition begins in January and will end in March. WATER SAFETY The Lake Region YMCA, 7350 S. Route 31 in Crystal Lake, has introduced two new The Lake County Rifles took a 19 to 7 lead and then coasted to a 34 to 26 defeat by the Racine Raiders Saturday night. Rifles quarterback Jesse Kaye threw three long touch­ down passes to give him 23 for the season, the second highest ever thrown in the 36 year history of the league. Lake County's reserve quarterback, Bob Berezowitz who sat on the bench for the entire game, set the league record with 31 touchdown passes in 1970. One of the scoring passes went to A.J. Owens for 35 yards with 55 seconds left in the game to give Owens eight touchdown receptions, the high in the league for the season. Many of the Lake County first stringers played for only a few minutes against Racine, in­ cluding all-league defense men programs into its swimming and water safety courses. One is a program for teaching 3 year olds to swim. The other is adoption and teaching mouth to mouth and cardio-pulmonary resus­ citation. The YMCA learn to swim program was created for 3 through 6 year old children. Also adopted by the YMCA was a recommendation that cardio­ pulmonary and mouth to mouth resuscitation be the improved methods in all emergency cases where artificial respiration is required. HARVARD HOSPITAL Andrew Turek, McHenry, was a patient at Harvard hospital. Set Bond For Two 'Cyclists Patrick Moran of 1812 S. Orchard lane, and Arland Dobbs of 2106 S. Orchard lane, McHenry, were arrested by sheriff's deputies after they were stopped while riding a motorcycle Sunday afternoon on Valley View road, Crystal Lake. Officers halted the 'cycle when they observed Dobbs, the passenger, had no eye protection device and no foot rest. During investigation, it was determined that the driver, Moran, was without the proper driver's license classification required for the operation of a motorcycle and he was issued a ticket for the violation. Bond for each was set at $1,000 and court appearance was scheduled for Oct 29. YMCA Sets Opening Date Monday, Oct 22 The Lake Region YMCA of Crystal Lake, located at 7350 S. Route 31, announces its first day of fall programs will be Oct. 22. YMCA members will be notified by telephone that all classes will start on thai Monday. The "Y" will be open from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m during the week, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, and from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Adults will be able to swim at any of these listed times. There will be two types of membership available to persons who may want to participate in the YMCA programs: 1 - limited mem­ bership, and 2 - activity membership, which is the in­ clusive plan.
