Marion Central Hurricane defense has been led by these three defensive lineman and linebackers. Performing well at defensive end and running back has been Joe Wagner (6-0,198) (far left) and at middle linebacker Bill Adams (5-10, 178) far right. Pictured in the center is co-captain Mike Pierce (5-9, 168) who leads the team in defensive points. Marion's opponent this week (Sat. Oct. 20) is Driscoll in Marian's 14th annual Homecoming. St, Edward Whips Marian Central 22*6 In SCC < Two long scoring drives and a quick touchdown after a fumbled punt gave the St. Edward High School varsity football team its first victory in Suburban Catholic Conference play. In the preliminary sophomore contest, St. Ed's defeated the young Canes 18-14 to cap a double Homecoming victory. St. Ed's opened the first quarter by taking the kick-off and marching 60 yds. to take a^ quick 60-0 lead. The Green Wave capitalized on Cal Babcock's fumbled punt on his own ten yard line by going the ten yards in four plays. The Green Wave converted on the two point extra point to take a 14-0 half time lead. Marian received the second half kick-off and drove the ball 53 yards before failing on a fourth down play on the St. Ed's 22 yard line. The Hurricanes got the ball back minutes later and went 82 yards for their only tally of the game. Cal Babcock went over from the 3 yard line to make the score 14-6. St. Ed's took the ensuing kick-off and with the option offense moved the ball 67 yards to paydirt. This smre iced the game at 22-6 with 1:46 remaining. Marian was paced on the ground by Mark Keil who picked up 81 yards. Defen sively, the Hurricanes let down from their three previous games which saw them give up only 22 points to opponents. The Hurricanes were also without the services of regular Joe Wagner. Saturday is Homecoming for Marian Central and a victory over Addison Driscoll would be a welcome initial conference victory.
