Sweetest Day Will Benefit Shut-Ins, Old HOMER E. NOLAND Homer E. Noland, 4213 N. Riverview, McHenry, is one of fifty first-round winners in the "Sweetest Smile for Sweetest day" contest. All are eligible for the grand prize of (what else?) a five-pound box of candy. Sweetest day this year is being observed throughout the Chicago area on Saturday, Oct. 20, as an occasion for special remembrances to more than 20,000 shut-ins - senior citizens and invalds - served by the Salvation Army, Hull House, Senior centers of Metropolitan Chicago, Holy cross and Swedish Covenant hospitals and Little Brothers of the Poor. Greeting cards and small gifts for all shut-ins are suggested by the Friends of Sweetest Day committee. Sweetest day 1973 can be an especially meaningful day for Chicagoland residents. They will have the opportunity of not only giving their family and friends tokens of remembrance on this holiday, but they also can help in bringing some joy and happiness into the lives of over 20,000 Chicago area shut- ins and elderly people who have no one to remember them. The Friends of the Sweetest day committee will provide gifts of candy to those forgotten and neglected individuals served by the Salvation Army, Hull House, the Little Brothers of the Poor and Holy Cross and Swedish Covenant hospitals. How much candy they distribute, however, depend on the people of the Chicagoland area. Here's how it works: Chicagoland residents are asked to put their name and LOSE WEIGHT OR MONEY BACK The Odrinex Plan can help you become the slim trim person that you would like to be. Her most recent area of study is foods. In this series of columns, starting today, she shares her vies.) "AMAZING A"....As a youngster I can remember my mother telling me, "Eat all your carrots so you will be able to see in the dark." Little did I know then she was making sure I got Vitamin A; and I wonder if she really knew, other than it was a vegetable and so good for me. Vitamin A is not only essential for bright, clear eyes, but an absolute must for healthy bones and skin. Most amazing about Vitamin A (and very few people are aware of this) is that this vitamin lowers the cholesterol level in the blood. Take this "yes" or "no" quiz and see how you rate with Vitamin A. 1.. Do you suffer from night blindness? Yes No 2. Are you sensitive to bright lights? Yes No address on the back of a postcard and send it to "Sweetest day, P.O. Box 9310, Chicago, 111. 60690". For every mailbag full of postcards they receive, the Friends of the Sweetest Day committee will donate a mailbag full of candy which will be divided among the five organizations men- timed above. These institutions will then distribute the candy to those shut-ins and elderly persons they service. There is no limit on the number of postcards an in dividual may send in. All postcards must be received by midnight, Sweetest day, Oct. 20. After the mailpull has been determined, twenty-five postcards will be drawn at random from those received, and those individuals whose name appears on the back of the postcard will each receive a box of candy. 3. Is your skin dry and rough? Yes No 4. Does your hair lack sheen & luster? Yes No 5. Do you have dandruff accumulation? Yes No 6. Do your fingernails break & peel easily? Yes No If your checks are in the "NO" squares then you are A- OK. As for you "YES" checkers....get on the A- bandwagon now. Start by in cluding some of the following foods in your daily diet: Liver, apricots, cantalope peaches, prunes (don't laugh), natural cheese, whole milk, egg yolk, and yummy sunflower seeds. There are just a few good sources of Vitamin A, but enough to get you started on the right track. TAKETHE"A"TRAIN . .TO FEEL GREAT.
