BROWNIE WING-DING 122 Brownies and their leaders, representing six troops from east and west Wonder Lake and Richmond, attended a Wing Ding at the Harrison Benwell Conservation Area on Saturday Oct. 6. A con servation district guide took the girls on an hour and a half nature hike of the newly marked trails. Follwing the hike, the Scouts washed their hands, (in the creek!) ate their nose bag lunches, and enjoyed that famous Girl Scout dessert S, mores. Entertainment in cluded folk singing, with guitar accompaniment. The Scouts who had attended day camp at the conservation area in June were' impressed by the great changes since that time. Some of the improvements include parking facilities and a drinking fountain. Following Brownie tradition, the place was left even cleaner than the Brownies found it. FIELD TRIP Mrs. Mavis Bagby's kin dergarten classes at Harrison School, after spending several weeks studying about pets, took their first field trip of the year to a veterinary hospital in Woodstock. Schaffer indicated that 20,000 copies of the poll had been distributed in all parts of the district with particular em phasis given to Kane and McHenry counties which are to be included in the proposed Transit authority. The poll revealed that 64 percent of the people who answered were opposed to the creation of an R.T.A. and that 90 percent of the people polled felt any proposal for the creation of a Mass Transit district should include a county referendum for citizens' ap proval. The citizens answering the poll indicated that if the district is to be created, their first choice for funding it would be the state lottery; second choice, gasoline tax; third choice, sales tax; fourth choice, state income tax and there was virtually no support for funding Holiday Hills Karen Kottke 385-6675 Lake Region Rescue Squad Needs Funds As many people in the area already know, the lake areas will soon be serviced through the Lake Region Rescue Squad. The McHenry Rescue Squad will no longer be available to us after Oct. 31. In matters of life and death, time is an essential factor. The McHenry Rescue Squad would have over seven miles to travel in an emergency, whereas, the Lake Region Rescue Squad am bulance will be stationed in Island Lake, which would be less than three miles traveling for our area. That in itself can mean saving precious time when needed. The Lake Region Rescue Squad is in need of equipment. An appeal has been made for a door - to - door canvas. Volunteers will be marching today, Saturday and Sunday for your donations. Please give what you can this is your rescue squad. Some of the areas to be served by the rescue squad will be Holiday Hills, Burton's Bridge, Island Lake, Wauconda, Fernwood and Griswold Lake Hills. Remember the ambulance will be on the street Oct. 31 and it must be completely outfitted by then. Incidentally, if anyone wishes to volunteer to help with the canvas, call Carol Wilson at 385-3068. SCHOOL FIELD TRIP Last Tuesday, Oct. 9, I was asked by my son, Ricky, to help with Mr. Weichle's fifth grade field trip to the First National Bank of McHenry. We walked from Edgebrook school to the bank. The tour was very in teresting and informative. The thing that fascinated the children the most was the air vent in the vault in case someone is accidentally locked in. Mr. Weichle has initiated several walking field trips to various places of business in McHenry. He calls these trips "learning experiences". I agree with him, these trips are good in many ways. Many of the other teachers have field trips for their classes also. The point I'm trying to make is that there is a definite need for parental aid with these trips. Unless the teachers can enlist the aid of a couple of parents each time the groups can not take the field trips. I had a very enjoyable time as I'm sure the children also did. the R.T.A. by either an ad ditional property tax or a utility tax. The Chicago Northwestern commuters in the 33rd district answering the poll indicated that 68 percent favored the district and 32 percent opposed it; 76 percent of the commuters felt that the creation of the new district should require a county referendum. On Tuesday morning (early) the mem bership received calls inviting them to a come as you are party. Many of the gals came in their nightgowns! Some of the women to show up in their pj's were Penny Appleyard, Helen Boettcher, Joan Cornwell, Abbie Emmerson, Pat Hughes, Sharon Kottke, Joan Laskowski, Mary Ann Mahon, Earline Mettelke and Gail Postal. We'll all make a better ; effort to get dressed earlier in the mornings now, won't we? - The meeting consisted of discussions on the Christmas * bazaar, the November mem bership dinner, and the charities to which the Women's Club will be donating. A request for men's toilet articles for a gift box for the men at the Downey Home was. made. The Women's Club has also donated $50 to the Lake Region Rescue Squad. The 'entertainment com mittee had the members bring a baby picture and everyone took turns at identifying them. Helen Boettcher proved to be best at photo identification. The girls were divided into groups and given a pencil, rub- berbands, scissors, con struction paper and paper clips and told to create something found in the kitchen. Bonnie Kellen, Sharon Kottke and Dee Wegener won with their creation of a canister set. The evening's servers were Pat Lonergan and Helen Boettcher.
