(by Joan Chapman) The Beautiful "B's". ...and that is exactly what they are. The vitamin B-Complex family helps to keep us beautiful inside and out. The B's help to ward off mental depression, stres®' nervous tension, keeps that I feel sorry for me" attitude away and brings that "I love life" feeling way up front! An A.A. member once told me that their director advised them to include B-Complex and Niacin (part of the B-Complex) in their daily diets. Mainly because the body cannot store them, they are water soluable, so we have to replace them each day. Some interesting facts you will want to remember about the B family: 1. Over cooking destroys the vitamin. 2. White sugar, excessive drinking and smoking, also rob you of B. 3. Baking soda and baking powder neutralize them. 4. B vitamins are effective in aiding digestion and improving the skin. There are fifteen members of the B-Complex family that have been identified and every one needs them! Being a "health nut", I try to include these foods , in my family's daily diet, but realizing how easy we swindle ourselves out of them, I sup plement our diet with Brewer's yeast. I've formed the habit of taking mine about 15 minutes before meals, as it helps to curb the appetite and has been very successful in reducing diets. Try it....You'll like the way you feel!! This all-American favorite was named not for the meat, but for the citizens of the German seaport, Hamburg. In trading with the Russian Baltic provin ces, they were introduced to red meat, shredded with a dull knife. The people of Hamburg were so fond of this dish that it gradually acquired the name of their city. Wl0t.nrv MaiJ, eaier Established 1875 3812 West Elm Street Phone 385-0170 McHenry.
