In the past these two teams have put on quite a battle, and this year should prove no ex­ ception. Last year the Warriors won 73 to 65. Not much is known about the "Bulldogs" this year, as this ATHLETES AWAY Gary Fairchild, former McHenry high Warrior was the leading pass receiver for the third straight year at Augustana college in Rock Island. The senior split end caught 25 passes for 377 yds and 1 touchdown. Gary was also selected as an end on the All Star team of the N.A.I.A. Division 20. This division consists of all the small college teams in the state of Illinois. He is hoping to play professional football. will be their opening game. While most of the other neigh­ boring schools played in a holiday tournament, Coach John Schad's Bulldogs chose to remain idle. The Warriors will be gunning for their second win of the current campaign. They defeated DeKalb, and lost to Kaneland and Belvidere in the King Korn tournament last weekend in Sycamore. This week the coaching staff is trying to iron out the wrinkles that were evident in the opening games. If they can maintain the desire and hustle they showed in Sycamore, look for the Warriors to add another win on Friday night. Mrs. Delores Rogers accepts the book for the McHenry Library from Harry Padgitt, President of the Harmony Snowmobile club. The club also presented copies of the book to the Woodstock Public Library, East Campus, West Campus, McHenry Junior high, Parkland Junior high, Johnsburg Junior high and Marian Central high school. The Harmony Snowmobile club gave the libraries the books so that the general public may become more familiar^ with snowmobiling, and it's in conjunction with the State of Illinois Association on Education. Mrs. Dolores Rogers received the book in the absence of the librarian, Mrs. June Stuart. Jan. 11, McHenry at Mundelein. 12, Marian DONKEY BASKETBALL COMES TO MARIAN CENTRAL ON DECEMBER 9 Some new basketball stars will be born on Sunday evening, December 9, when the Marian Central High School Pep Club in­ troduces donkey basketball to McHenry County. Some well-known, but broken down basketball players will be featured in a double- header contest in the Marian gym. In the first game, a team composed of the McHenry County Sheriff's Department and McHenry Fire Department will be playing against the Marian Central Fathers' Club. In the second game, the Marian faculty will line up against the varsity football team and cheerleaders. The first ball is to be thrown out at 7:30 p.m. to begin this exciting evening of basketball. The donkeys will be stubborn when they take the Marian floor and to put it mildly, a bit uncooperative. The rules of the game are that you can only shoot while sitting on tfce donkey and recover loose balls while holding on to the donkey. Trying to move a donkey two or three feet to recover a loose ball can be a real challenge for men of strength. There will be thrills, spills, laughs, and more laughs and it will be fun for the entire family. It will be the funniest basketball game of the year where everyone will go home laughing...You won't want to miss it! Tickets will be available at the door for both action-packed con­ tests. According to the experts Ohio Statq has been the best college team in the country all season. In the last half of their clash with Michigan, they faded and had to settle for a tie. • Now an old grad from Michigan is taking the case to court. We had Christmas spirit when our tree was decorated with candles and street lamps burned kerosene. If you want to develop arm muscles, go back to driving a car without power steering. Was a time when they called it rushing the can when a fe|low took his little pail to the saloon to have it filled with beer. Now they are carrying the cans to the gasoline filling stations. The Warrior basketball teams, varsity and sophs, travel to Fox Lake Friday night to play the Grant High team. This early season meeting has produced some real battles in the past. Zion-Benton comes to McHenry the following week and a lot of rough edges should be ironed out by that time. There is next year. Well, Earl, I think Abe Gibron, the Bear's coach, is doing fine. The team just couldn't jell. Well, Abe will have one year under his belt and he might find daylight next year. Maybe next year the ball will bounce right for him. What I think hurt the Bears was that the other teams improved quite a bit. I think the White Sox people should hire Lawrence Welk to play better ball, while at home or away. I was saddened by the McHenry football team not playing better this fall. It might be McHenry's turn next year to get all the marbles. It could be possible that the basketball team might be better this year. If I had the chance to see both high schools, I might need a radar unit to find my way. If the weather is decent, I expect to be with my brother and family for that special day (Thursday). Well, Earl, I think we better watch out for those girls as they are getting mean and tough and could give the boys a run for their money in the future in all sports. I expect the next thing I will have to do is buy a pot-bellied stove to burn coal and wood and use for an old-fashioned cook stove, and take a bath in an old galvinized tub. It could be possible.
