James street, McHenry, General Assembly Okays Election Consolidation Tax saving legislation to consolidate elections of county board members with November general elections has been approved by the Illinois General Assembly and sent to the Governor. The bill, which could save Illinois taxpayers millions of dollars in 1974, allows county boards in eighty-four counties committed the offense of theft under $150. Bond set at $1,000, court date set for Dec. 13. Detective Joseph Eisele charges that on or about Nov. 14, William B. Bolger of 3613 W. James, McHenry, committed the offense of burglary of a building owned by Hugh Kirk located at 105 N. Emerald drive, McHenry. Bond set at $5,000, court date Dec. 13. to pass either ordinances or resolutions by Dec. 31 of this year changing the county board election date from April to November of each even- numbered year. Thus each individual county could determine whether or not it wishes to opt for the new election date. Neither Cook county nor those counties not under township organization would be affected by the proposed law. Schaffer said besides saving election costs the bill has the added advantage of guaran teeing an increased number of voters will turn out to elect county board members. He said general elections have traditioi^lly drawn more voters to the polls than special or county elections. Under an amendment added to the bill on the floor of the Senate, candidates who have already filed petitions to have their names placed on the ballots for elections next spring would not have to re-file if the election date is set back to November. Their names would automatically appear on the primary ballot in March. A second amendment added in the House stipulates that those counties selecting their candidates at party nominating caucuses may hold the caucuses in February, 1974, but set the county board election for November. The caucus nominating procedure would be eliminated after 1974, with all counties going to the primary voting system of nomination. The Governor has indicated he will sign the legislation into law this week. HELP SAVE OUR ENERGY!
