Ward To New Position With Burndy Corp. TERRENCE E. WARD Terrence E. Ward has been appointed director of operations, Power Group, of Burndy Corp., Norwalk, Conn., it has just been announced by the group's vice-president and general manager, James J. Hennessy. In this new position, Ward will be responsible for connector operations of the Group, including productipn, material and inventory control, manufacturing engineering and quality control. The Power group manufactures and sells connectors and installation tooling for electric utilities and the construction industry. Prior to this assignment, he was division manager for the firm's Bantam division which makes miniature multi-pin connectors used in a variety of electronic systems. Ward, a graduate from Marquette university, Milwaukee, in 1957, has a B.S. degree in Economics. Following graduation, he served as a pilot with the U.S. Navy. He has been a member of the American Management association and the American Association of Testing Methods. He resides with his wife, Mary Ann, and three children at 80 Midland Road, Trumbull, Conn. Hawkins, an Oakland fifth grade teacher who has devoted nineteen years to the teaching profession, has been named 1974 Illinois teacher of the year, State School Supt. Michael J. Bakalis has announced. Bakalis an­ nounced the selection of Mrs. Hawkins and four runners-up for the title at a banquet at the Holiday Inn East in Springfield. FRANK A. HARNER A former resident of McHenry, Frank A. Harner, died Dec. 9 in Salt Lake City, Utah, at the age of 67. He was born Sept. 3, 1906, in Indiana. Survivors are his wife, Frances, nee Zimmerman; two sons and one daughter; three grandchildren; and a brother, Eugene Harner of McHenry. Funeral services were held last Thursday, Dec. 13 in St. Ambrose church, Salt Lake. Burial was in the church cemetery. Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Harner and Mr. and Mrs. Girard Zimmerman of McHenry at­ tended last rites. GUSTAV A. EKSTROM A former resident of McHenry, Gustav A. Ekstrom, 71,89 Elm street, Crystal Lake, died Dec. 13, at McHenry hospital. Born in Malmo, Sweden, Sept. 14, 1902, the son of John and Anna (Kloo) Eckstrom, he was employed as a lineman for Commonwealth Edison com­ pany. He was a member of the Independent Order of the Vikings, Thry Fing H34. On April 23, 1953, in Geneva, 111., he married Margaret Kniebush, who survives. Others include two sisters, Miss Margit Ekstrom and Miss Mary Ekstrom, both of Crystal Lake. He was preceded in death by four sisters, two brothers and his parents. Funeral services were held at Warner and Flagg funeral home Saturday at 2 o'clock, with Rev. Thomas L. Johnson officiating. Burial was in McHenry County Memorial Park, Woodstock. Memorials may be made to the McHenry county heart fund. HELEN M. ALLEN Mrs. Helen M. Allen, 73, of 115 S. Emerald drive, McHenry, was dead on arrival at McHenry hospital Dec. 17. She was born May 19,1900, in Good Hope, 111., and had been a resident of McHenry for the past seven years, moving here from Chicago. She was a member of the Senior Citizens club. Arpong her survivors are her husband, Cyril G.; a son, Roger Rutter, Chicago; a grand­ daughter; two brothers, Ralph Pugh, Seattle, Wash., and John Pugh, McHenry; a sister, Mrs. Orville (Esther) McKinnley Monmouth, 111. Visitation is scheduled aftei p.m. Tuesday at the Peter M.* Justen and Son funeral home where services will be held Wednesday at 3 p.m. with Rev. Jack Mclntyre of Faith Presbyterian church of­ ficiating. Burial will be private. REMLEY Irwin M. Remley, 68, of 703 S. Hilltop, McHenry, died Dec. 13 at McHenry hospital. He was born April 21, 1905, in Ger­ many. The deceased was employed as an engineer for Standard Oil Co. He is survived by a brother, Herbert, of St. Petersburg, Fla. Last rites were held Sunday morning at 11 o'clock at the George R. Justen and Son funeral home. Burial was in Woodland cemetery. Blatter, 72, of 4305 South street, McHenry, who died Dec. 14 at McHenry hospital. Interment was private. Mr. Blatter was born Aug. 28, 1901, in Germany. Open Public Hearings On Land Values Public hearings have been scheduled for Springfield and Chicago starting next week on the state Department of Local Government Affairs' estimate of full fair cash value of locally assessed property in each county, according to Frank A. Kirk, department director In September, Gov. Dan Walker signed into • law legislation which required the local government affairs department to publish its estimate of full fair cash values for counties and to hold public hearings on this estimate.
