MARGARET O'NEIL CITY OF McHENRY WARD 4 BOUNDARIES 3 •V TM« OLD TIMBM From Mra. John E. Lindholm, Buena Park, Calif.: I remember when I was a child my uncle would come and take us to church early Christmas morning to the Swedish Service, which began at 5 a.m. My father, myself and four sis ters went along. Mother stayed home with baby brother. This was in Massachusetts. I marveled at the candles that were lit in the windows along the way, as the horse galloped through the drifted snow, with bells ringing. To this day, I think back -- and I can recall no fires started with those real candles burning in the windows. From A. Doherty, Chicago, I1L: I remember Christmas in the South as a time of family get-to gether--brothers, sisters, uncles, aunts, cousins from miles around. No energy shortage then, but a roaring fireplace and a great meal cooked on a wood-burning stove. Highlight, of course, was church on early Christmas morning. Good old days--and good old holidays.
