Each team has a 3 won and no loss record. Friday night the Crown Vikings were the third victim of the Warriors, as they went down to a 71 to 62 defeat in a very ragged ball game. Steve Buss put the Warriors on the board at 6:25 and then baskets by Stark and Wanta and Buss again and the Warriors were off and running leading 7 to l at the midway point in the period. They increased their lead to 18 to 7 as the quarter ended. During the second period both teams were as cold as the weather outside, with neither team scoring for 4 minutes. With Stark, Wanta and Koerber finally getting baskets the Warriors managed to lead at the intermission 30 to 18. In the early minutes of the third quarter it looked as if the Warriors were going to put the game away in moth balls. They increased their lead to a 46 to 25 margin. During this flurry of points Danny Camasta had the hot hand, as the senior guard hit for four baskets. The Warriors held on and led at the end of the third period 54 to 36. In the final period the game resembled more of a pick-up game rather than anything else. Play was ragged on both sides and the Vikings did outscore the Warriors 26 to 17 leaving a final score of McHenry 71 Crown 62. It was not a good ball game from the way the game'should be played. Numerous turnovers on the part of both teams, along with a total of 47 fouls being called did not help matters. The Warriors were not as sharp as in previous games. The zone defense of Crown gave them some trouble. Their passing was poor, and their shooting was below average. Some bright notes however; Danny Camasta came off the bench and got 12 points and showed a lot of hustle. Marty Zeller and Dave Lawson showed some spark. Kerry Decker was rugged on the boards as usual. Steve Koerber shows improvement with each game. Roger Wanta showed a little more hustle and rebounded better, and of course Ben Himpelmann, who had an off night, still managed to gather in 16 points. Buss and Stark played steady ball, but both got into foul trouble early. and Mike Cajthaml and Steve Kaspryzk although not getting into the scoring column did play a part in the victory. There is no rest for the Warriors as they prepare for the Kankakee tournament where they meet Bradley on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. BOX SCORE Marian Suffers Defeat > At St. Edwards 61-50 The Cubs kept their promise to back up the truck at Wrigley Field. Now, it seems time for the Bears to wheel in a tractor- trailer. Abe Gibron seems sure to be back as coach of the Bears. If owner George Halas will come to understand that it is a fact of life that many pro athletes are overpaid and open his purse strings to let the moths fly out, he may get the show on the road. The Bears have too many knee injuries to get down and pray, but it is our un­ derstanding that prayers are also heard from a wheelchair. No coach ever looked good if he didn't have the horses. The immortal Knute Rockne did quite well with his seven mules and four horsemen. Sat down to our hot coffee, bacon and eggs this morning and got to worrying about people less fortunate. If all the money spent on wars, waste and Watergate (dragged out too long) could be used to help unfortunates, this country would be much better. With all our worry about taking a spill on the ice, we took a fall right in our own home the other day. It didn't help our right leg one bit, but the floor held up real good. The Green Wave of St. Ed­ ward high school, Elgin, took one giant step toward the SCC basketball crown by dumping Marian's Hurricanes in a 61-50 contest Saturday night. St. Ed's blasted to a 37-22 half time advantage by virtue of a 20 point second quarter that was sparked by guard Sam Williams and his 10 point barrage. Williams led the home team with 22 points to pace all scorers for the evening. Sam Anderson and Bill Moerschbaecher were the only Hurricanes to manage double figures as they both contributed 12 points to the cause. The little Canes were im­ pressive by capturing a 56-49 victory over the St. Ed's sophomores. Regulation saw both teams deadlocked at 48 Junior Tonyan says his Dad (Ed Sr.) is a real Sox fan and wonders what "You and Dad are going to do with Ron Santo." We'll make a ball player out of him, Junior. There is good news today. Brian Lund, promising "Big Man" for our basketball team, went through surgery to repair a knee injury and things are looking up. Kobza, a 245 pound Sophomore from Lake-in-the-Hills, has been a starter at defense end and tackle during his first two years at the Eastern school. Kobza was the veteran of the defensive line during the '73 season as Holy Cross fielded a very young team that compiled a 5-5 season record. "We were a little less experienced this season," asserted Kobza in reflecting on the past season, "but the defense this year seemed to have more natural talent, size, and speed. If I don't outspeed my opponents, then I'm in pretty bad shape because I'm usually smaller than everyone else." Holy Cross emerged with wins over the Army and Dartmouth among their tough wins and lost a squeaker to Syracuse 10-9. Kobza felt that the 42-24 loss to Boston college, third-ranked on the East Coast, was the best Crusader effort of the year. Kobza won defensive player-of-the-game several times this year and his eighteen unassisted tackles against Connecticut was his personal highlight of the season. In addition to earning SCC all-conference honors in football at Marian Central, Kobza also holds the school discus record with a mark of 159 feet. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Kobza of Lake-in- the-Hills. Sophs Defeat Crown 64 To 32 Coach Gary Collins sophomore cagers defeated Crown last Friday night by the score of 64 to 32. Clearing his bench early and often Coach Collins used his entire squad" in the game, with 11 of them scoring. The young Warriors jumped off to a 14 to 2 first quarter lead, and at one time early in the second period led 23 to 3. Once again the team was shut out at the free throw line, going 0 for 5. Tommy Ludwig's 14 points, were high for the game. The defending champs easily won the tournament as they defeated Schaumburg, McHenry and Marian Central. The host Warriors took second place losing only to Deerfield. They beat Schaumburg, 50 to 46, lost to Deerfield, 52 to 39, and won over Marian, 58 to 27. In the Marian game Coach Collins used 18 players with 12 of them getting into the scoring column. They jumped off to a 18 to 5 first quarter lead and won going away. The clubs have worked hard with land owners and county police to be able to ride snowmobiles into certain areas BUT when those of us take unfair advantage of all this beautiful snow and just take off in all directions these privileges just might be taken away from us. You have to remember that this permission is obtained from individual property owners and if abused too much this privilege may be taken away. Besides there are rules and regulations plus laws governing snowmobilers. Please abide by them. Snowmobiling in restricted areas in state parks, vandalism and littering.
