IN THE HOLIDAY SPIRIT- The Christmas spirit prevails and at no place is it more evident than at Brake Parts, McHenry. Several employees approached the management recently for permission to seek toys, food, clothing and money for less fortunate families in the area. After a committee was established, word spread and before long two huge barrels set up as containers were emptied and filled many times again. Mrs. Barbara Moran, assistant personnel manager, coordinated efforts. The committee included Violet Tomczak, Laura Michels, Henry Gaona, Mike Betancourt, Marilyn Tripp, Lottie Eschner, Lee Dubeck, Mary Cholewa, Wanda Robison, Arlene Prokaski, Arlene Resetar, Agnes Prazak, Bea Glab and Jim Millspaugh. WAYNE GAYLORD PHOTO West Shore Beach Connie Schmidt 385-7841 Scribe Reviews Year's Progress In Subdivision What have you done for the community? This question was asked almost nine months ago when our subdivision began a newspaper column. There have been many attempts to inform West Shore Beach residents through the news media in the past. However, it was stopped from a lack of cooperating callers' in the community. Many people have helped to continue community news and those of you must be earnestly congratulated for keeping our 1973 column going strong. There were many projects by the Property Owners Association which included a rummage-bake sale during the summer, and an election-picnic in September. The subdivision paid $150 for the grass to be cut at our beach this summer and about $200 for the tree removal on Beachside Road. Culverts were installed under Alton and Orchardway along with much roadwork that has drained the majority of our money. The Women's auxiliary began a glass and tin can recycling project that was done for six months and brought money for eight truckloads ot beach sand. Due to the lack of volunteer help again the project was stopped. The general trend un fortunately for our community is apathy and is the key word for 1973. The same small minority continues to carry the load for the rest of the people. If each one of us did a little bit there would be more progress and less work. The young and old both must work together and start 1974 ih the'best way possible. Ahold' clifche is true around the world that can be used for our subdivision too>- "United we stand; divided we fall." HAPPY HOLIDAYS Hope all our residents have a wonderful Christmas with their family and friends. West Shore Beach joins the world in the true spirit of love and peace. May we share Christmas together in our hearts and be thankful for being alive. Merry Christmas neighbors! RETIRING OFFICERS Let's remember the leaders of our subdivision who have managed the year's problems and improvements. They in clude: President, Bill Mohlman; Vice-President, Boyd Knaack; Secretary, Dolores Jaburek; Treasurer, Joe Finiello; Financial Secretary, Helen Mohlman. Our board of directors was: Lorraine Hagen, Mort Hagen, Bill Moore, Fred Schmidt, Martha Dignan, Sev Bottari, Budd Kidd, Ed Piatt, Erna Piatt, and alternate Mildred Giddings. Nice work everyone as we all appreciated your efforts. PERSONALS Get-well wishes are extended to Virginia Posthuma who has to spend the holiday season at McHenry hospital. Christmas birthday wishes Membership Dues Now Payable For Hospital Persons who have not sent in their membership dues to Memorial Hospital for McHenry County association are urged to do so by Monday, Dec. 31, so they will be eligible to vote at the annual meeting in January, Bert Hanson, ad ministrator, said. At the most recent tabulation, 1974 renewals and new members were on pace with a year ago. Memorial Hospital for McHenry County association is the organization that governs the hospital at Woodstock. From it comes the directors who in turn elect officers and establish ad ministrative policies. The annual meeting will be held Tuesday night, Jan. 22 at Crystal Lake, and reservation forms and the official notice will be sent to members this week. Persons renewing their membership--or people desiring to become a member- shoulct do so by sending fee for each membership to Memorial Hospital at Woodstock.
