V \ i , K Id - l'LAINDEALER-KRIDAY..JANUARY 11, 1974 State Bank Holds 68th Annual Meet The sixty-eighth annual meeting of the stockholders of MeHenrv State bank was held at the bank offices Jan. 9. Dr. William A. Nye presided over the meeting. President Robert L. Weber reviewed the bank year for the assembled share holders. Mr. Weber pointed out that although the total growth was not as spectacular as in isome years, the bank enjoyed a *" profitable year. The fact that a ceiling is placed on the interest rates banks are permitted to pay. makes it impossible to compete with some other higher yielding investments Weber said Executive Vice-President Thomas F. Bolger pointed out that the bank paid out more than 2 million dollars in savings interest. Bolger said that this amounted to $4 a minute for every minute of the year. The executive vice-president also pointed out that the salaries of the ninety officers and em ployees were a major expense. Vice-President and Cashier Ormel J, Prust reviewed the year end figures as compiled by Edward J. Becker, Jr. The year end statement showed an in crease of more than 4 million dollars in home mortgages. Prust stated that this was contrary to a trend in the general area, but was in keeping with the philosophy of the McHenry State bank to reinvest deposits in the local area. Prust pointed out that the •ncrease in deposits was mostly in savings accounts. The cashier cautioned the stockholders that because McHenry State bank was paying the maximum on all savings accounts that the in terest expense will increase. He stated that there are in dications of a reduction in loan rates. Prust said that this could effect earnings for the yeai; ahead. The stockholders elected the following directors: Esther M. Carey, William A. Nye, M.D., Robert L. Weber, Thomas F. Bolger, Elmer P. Adams, John L. Cowlin, Lenora E. Frisby, Ormel J. Prust and Francis M. Schmitt. . John Cowlin is a partner in , the Crystal Lake law firm of Cowlin and Cowlin. Francis M. Schmitt is a dairy farmer and a lifelong resident of the John- sburg community.
