PAGc, 7 - PLAINDEALER-FRIDAY, JANUARY 18, 1974 MUSIN" N' MEANDERIN" (Continued from page 1) c to be celebrated quietly this weekend is of special note. It is the anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Walter J. Freund. Until his retirement a couple of years ago, Mr. Freund operated a tire vulcanizing business for a half century on Main street. During that time he married and raised six children, none of whom he has ever seen. Mr. Freund, blind since he was 17, was a bag puncher in the circus in spite of his han dicap. Later, as a hobby, he learned to make beautiful inlaid tables. And through the years, with the help of his wife, he supported a large family. All golden wedding an niversaries are special oc casions, but the attainment of the Freunds seems to be par ticularly noteworthy. K.A.F. BURGLARIES AND THEFTS IN LARGE NUMBER INVESTIGATED (Continued from page 1) his drive. Sometime during the night, someone stole the bat tery from the auto and syphoned out a full tank of gasoline. Ernest Dahi of 5419 E. Lake Shore drive, Wonder Lake, reported to county authorities Saturday morning that his snowmobile had been stolen. The vehicle was chained and locked to a tree in the back yard. Sometime during the past week, someone succeeded in removing the vehicle, leaving the lock and chain behind. The vehicle was later found abandoned near the Wonder Lake dam and returned to th owner. Gerald Hill of 2608 Manitbu, McHenry, reported to sheriff's deputies that his auto had become stuck in the snow at Cuhlman and Bay road Thursday night about 8 o'clock. When he returned Friday morning at 7 o'clock to get the auto, he discovered that all eight windows of the station wagon had been broken, ap parently by use of a hammer. DISTRICT OFFERS EAST CAMPUS FOR SALE (Continued from page 1) employment of Miss Lynette Beenken to replace Mrs. Gaye Boland as a West campus teacher. Miss Beenken is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin with a business education major and an English minor. It was noted that of ten personal invitations extended to parents to attend the January board meeting, only Mr. and Mrs. James Wickenkamp were present. Following the executive session, the board acted to approve early payment of Special Education taxes. MINOR CRASHES INVESTIGATED (Continued from page 1) proceeded to change lanes and failed to see the Fandre car alongside his vehicle. William B. Douglas of 3212 Stillhil! road, McHenry, a passenger in a car driven by Robert F. Winters of McHenry, was issued a ticket for opening a vehicle door in traffic. CITY LEADERS MEET ON ZONING RECOMMENDATIONS (Continued from page 1) to allow access to potential growth areas. Fred Meyer explained that it is written into Ladd's ordinance that anytime the Council wants Ladd to establish a street from Crystal Lake road to Curran road, the firm must do it. Ladd must abide by this agreement or stop building. During a lengthy discussion on height restrictions and the seven-story building being planned by developer Ralph Edgar in back of the McHenry Savings and Loan building, Zoning Board member, Paul Fidler, asked if the McHenry Township Fire district had expressed its feeling on the proposed high-rise building. Since the district has no snorkel unit, would this effect local rates? Fred Meyer replied that he had talked to officials and there should be no problem. It was much the same situation the city of Chicago has with the John Hancock building. There could be no snorkel unit for that building. Meyer explained that these buildings must all have internal sprinkler systems and are constructed differently. After approximately three hours of discussions, the Mayor asked members of the Zoning Board and Plan commission to take the following suggestions into consideration for possible action: 1-In R-4 zoning, each apart ment be required to have 2,500 square feet of land regardless of the number of bedrooms; 2- More parking spaces per apartment be required regardless of its zoning classification; 3-Tighten up restrictions on B-F and B-3 zoning which at ihe present time do not restrict the number of apartments wnich can be built above or v below a business; 4-PrivateV owned condominiums, townhouses and villas where the concept of a common wall is involved be required to have at least 3,500 square feet per living unit; 5- All property should be con trolled by the city's off-street parking ordinance with no exceptions; 6-Taxi stands and the base of their operations should be under a business zoning--some type of protec tion for adjacent residence for existing taxi businesses should be included in the taxi fran chise ordinance; 7-Consider reimposing height restrictions and 8-Establish a B-5 zoning classification to limit housing facilities in business classifications. Voter League Study STOCK Survey Favors Vote Consolidation DOLLAR DAYS McHenry's first semi-annual Dollar Days will be held Jan. 31, Feb. 1 and 2. Robert P. Blake of 809 N. Allen Avenue, McHenry, was southbound on Green street, near Main, when he ap proached the Winters auto which was parked at the curb. The car door opened and Blake was unable to avoid striking the door because of oncoming traffic. Douglas said he did not see the car approaching until impact occurred. The mishap took place Tuesday morning about 8:35. Some 90 percent of local government officials in McHenry county favor con solidation of elections, a joint survey conducted by the Leagues of Women voters of Crystal Lake-Cary Area, and Woodstock-McHenry showed: The survey conducted by the Leagues covered the entire McHenry county area < and included local government officials at all levels including county, township, city and village, school district and other special districts. A total of ninety-two local govern mental units were sent questionnaires by the Leagues and fifty responded, or 54 percent of the total. Of those responding, 90 percent support consolidation of elections. A majority of those responding would like to consolidate all local elections except county-wide elections, which they would prefer to consolidate with state and national elections. A majority also favored limiting referenda to certain dates with a minority indicating that provision should be made for emergencies. Additionally, another minority felt that referenda should be left to local option. The Leagues conducted the survey for two basic reasons: 1. Because members of the Illinois Legislature had in dicated that local officials were firmly opposed to consolidation of local elections, and 2. To determine whether local governmental officials would Teen Injured In Accidental Pistol Discharge Sixteen-year-old Gerald Lameka of 154 Pine Grove, McHenry, was treated at the emergency room of McHenry hospital Monday night for a gunshot wound to his left index finger. Lameka reported he had seen some boys in a farm field near his home. He went to see what they were doing and found they were shooting a carbon dioxide powered pistol. Lameka asked to fire the weapon and after taking several shots, the gun jammed. In an attempt to free it, the weapon discharged and the projectile penetrated his left index finger. The boy said he knew neither the identity of the youths nor the person who brought him to the hospital for treatment. Two Arrested For Cannabis Possession Charles O. Miller and Douglas Renslow, both of 1005 Hilltop drive, McHenry, were arrested by sheriff's deputies for unlawful possession of cannabis. Officers went to the home Monday night to serve papers, As the door opened, the smell of burning cannabis prevailed. Inside the home, a quantity of cannabis was found along with paraphernalia for its con sumption. The two men are to appear in court Jan. 24. agree with a consensus con- ductediay the League of Women Voters of Illinois among its own membership that consolidation of local elections is desirable because with multiple flec tions, voters tend to be con fused over the issues and voter turnout tends to be poor. The League of Women Voters of Crystal Lake-Cary Area and the League of Women Voters of Woodstock-McHenry, along with all other eighty-seven local Leagues in the state, have reached the following con sensus on consolidation of elections: 1. We support the concept of consolidation of elections in Illinois. Reasons for support: a, economy; b, increased voter participation; c, uniformity of procedures; Other reasons, d, unification of district boun daries; 3, increased registration opportunities; f, increased use of voting machines with diminishing opportunities for fraud. 2. Prefer that elections be held in Spring and November annually. * 3. League members favor two elections per year with provisions for local option on referenda. Some concerns expressed about consolidations of elec tions: 1, too long a time interval •between primary and general elections; 2, politicizing of non partisan elections; 3, no provision for run-off elections; 4, lack of opportunity to fill vacancies by elections. She says she's in love with another man. Divorce proceedings are under way, but I just can't imagine how it happened. I have never really prayed be fore, but I've been praying very hard lately. I want my home to be saved. Why doesn't God answer my pray ers? God does answer our pray ers; He does not always an swer them "Yes." He some times says "Wait," and some times says "No." Then too where there are several people involved in a relationship, each person does maintain his own identity and individ uality, meaning that some times we are hurt by the sin ful actions of others. It is a shame that this is the case, but this is the price we pay for living in a world where people have the right to make their own choices in life, even if those choices are wrong. I hope you don't make the mis take of saying to the Lord, "If you will not allow my wife to return to me, then I don't want any part of you." Too many come to God with this kind of prayer. You can't bribe God. You must recog nize that as long as people are seeking to do His will, He will provide them the strength to overcome the difficulties and storms of life. Christ taught us again and again that our prayer should be, "Thy will be done." So often, the only time we turn to God is when we lose something we hold very dear, but fortunatel/, God will wel come us back even then if we are sincere. The Psalmist said, "Gracious is the Lord, and righteous, ye, our God is merciful, the Lord preserves the simple. It has your weight wrong, too." and He healed me" [Psalms 116:5 & 6]. . - During this time of great trial and unrest, you must continue to pray and believe in God. Believe that He will help you m the way He knows is best for you. Also, you should recognize that the situation you find yourself in did not come about overnight. There may be certain qualities or aspects of your life that need changing. Possibly, you haven't lived as vou should have. You need to improve and make whatever correc tions are necessary in your own life. Psalms 118:13 & 14, "Hard pressed, about to fall was I, but the Lord came to help me.- The Lord is my strength and my song. He has become my salvation." [Ber- kely translation].
