The clarity which the authoress, Helen Maclnnes, has brought out in describing every thought and emotion that Bryant thinks and feels, cannot be praised enough. The story revolves about the map, signifying the location of the Chest, and the map, hidden in the Photography shop, managed by Richard and Anna Bryant, and how the enemy, (of whom there is more than one), purports to steal the map, find the chest, and make away with its contents, to their countries. The enemy is miffed by secret Agent William Mathison, who is assigned to find the killers of Richard Bryant, and his complex tracking of the enemy. Wit, pitted against wit, revealing the expert manipulation of each character, stepping into each scene, in the story. James Bond has a com­ petitor, with William Mathison on the scene, and Mathison is only one of the myriads of characters that reach ou| and grab the reader. Anna Bryant, for one, has courage, and faith in her husband, and sincerity.
