THIS TIED IT at 2 all, but it was also the closest the Warriors came in their loss to Libertyville Friday night. Koerber's basket was good for 2 of his 9 points for the evening. Mike Cajthaml led the Warriors with 11. Warrior ace Ben Himpelmann, far right, was held to 4 points as the Wildcats outhustled the McHenry cagers. Warrior Dan Camasta also tallied for 9 points. (STAFF PHOTO-WAYNE GAYLORD) Libertyville Wildcats s> Defeat Warriors 74-54 By Dick Rabbitt Coach Larry Leon's Liber tyville "Wildcats" in a con vincing manner defeated the McHenry Warriors Friday night by a score of 74 to 54. The loss left the Warriors in a four way tie for the North Suburban Conference. Libertyville, Zion and Dundee share the top spot with the Warriors. It was just a case of being out-hustled, out rebounded and outshot, that brought about the Warrior's defeat. There was no doubt in the minds of the fans that the "Cats" came to play ball. They did an excellent job on the Warriors, and have to be commended on their fine play. Cummins opened the scoring for the Cats at 7:48 and from then on it was p.11 Libertyville. Koerber tied the game at 7:00 and Stark's free throw at 6:15 left the Warriors trailing 5 to 3. At the midway point in the period it was 12 to 5 and 3 minutes remaining Koerber's basket made it 14 to 7, the Wildcats ran off 8 straight points and went on to lead at the quarter 24 to 11. During the second period the Warriors continued to try and play catchup ball, but Liber tyville just kept rebounding and v securing and ted at halftime 42 to 22. During the first half the, ball seemed to bounce right into the hands of any Libertyville man. They hit on 10 out of 10 free throws in the first quarter alone. They outrebounded the Warriors 20 to 8 during the first half. The Warriors were ac tually at a height advantage, but could not take charge of the boards. In the \ third quarter the Warrior offense picked up a little with Camasta, and Wanta along with Cajthaml, closed the gap to 52 to 38 going into the final period. In the final period the Warriors couldn't close the gap and Libertyville increased their lead to a convincing 74 to 54 victory. The "Cat's" defense was tough for the Warriors to penetrate. The Warriors were forced to shoot from out over the box and 1 zone. Mark Mieszalla was given the task of guarding Steve Himpelmann. What more can be said, he allowed Himpelmann 8 shots all evening, with Himpelmann making two baskets for 4 points. The play of guard Steve Cummins overshadowed the "Cats" fine playmaker Bobby Leon. Cummins had 24 points for the evening's high. Steve Buss did a good job guarding Leon. Leon had 5 baskets for the evening, two of them coming after Steve had fouled out. He also picked up 6 freethrows for a total of 16 pts. Mike Cajthaml who again looked good coming off the bench, led the Warrior attack with 11 pts. Danny Camasta played a fine floor game, made several steals and managed to pick up 9 points' for a nice night's work. The conference race is wide open. With four teams tied for the lead, it's still a tossup. Barrington and North Chicago are only one game back, so there are six teams all in the thick of it. I think it speaks well for the North Suburban. What other league has 6 teams all with a chance for the title, at this stage of the race. The "Warriors" are not out of it by all means. They will have to work a little harder now that they are not alone at the top. It's North Chicag6 this week and the last game with a team from the East Dvision. The schedule favors the Warriors. Let's hope they take advantage of it BOXSCORES MCHENRY fg ft pf tp Wanta - - 2 2 3 6 Stark " 114 3 Koerber 3 3 5 9 Buss 2 0 5 4 Himpelmann 2 0 5 4 Zeller 110 3 Cajthaml 5 1 0 11 Camasta 3 3 4 9 Decker 0 10 1 Kaspryzk 10 0 2 Stine 0 2 0 2 20 14 26 54 LIBERTYVILLE Thompson 4 3 5 11 Mieszala 2 6 5 10 Burkhart 2 0 5 4 Cummins 9 6 3 24 Leon 5 6 3 16 Raffin 2 3 2 7 Canfield 0 0 1 0 Pinklenburg 1 0 0 2 McHenry 11 11 16 16 54 Libertyville 24 18 10 22 74 Mobile News Mr. Donut Donuts McNeils Fried Chicken Open 6 a.m. - 7-days-a-week Woodstock & McHenry .. . and that's not all-every da\£ (INCLUDING SUNDAY) -- you can choose from 30 varieties of famous, delicious Mr. Donut donuts. Thought sure that would be a close wing-ding here Friday night between the Libertyville Wildcats and McHenry Warriors. It wasn't. \ We saw the Wildcats as a cocky outfit that looked like No. 1 in this game. While all eyes were on the visitors' Bob Leon, Steve Buss gave him a rough nighV far below his scoring level. What we didn't realize was that the Wildcats have a Junior guard named Steve Cummins who can do it all. He sewed 24 points and was a real nuisance all night. There is no secret that another Steve - Himpelmann - has to score high if the Warriors are to win. Coach Leon put one of his three starting Juniors, Mark Mieszala, on our ace sewer and the fellow hung over Steve like the itch. With a 20 point lead, Coach Leon and his assistant were on their feet and excited. Couldn't get it until McHenry crept up to within 11 points. Then thought maybe they knew something we didn't know. Attendance was up for the game. Too bad it wasn't like some games we have seen. Dick Rabbitt had announced that he wouldn't respond to calls for him to lead a cheer unless the team really needed a boost. They needed help thife time so when the Pep Club crowd came up with "We want Rabbitt", Dick responded. They whooped it up pretty good, but couldn't turn the game around. When a player goes up to block a shot or knocks the ball out of an opponent's hands, he might as well figure he will draw a tout in this modern day way of officiating We saw one Friday night that was a bad call, being close enough to see it while the ref wasn't in position. The speed limit through both Richmond and Spring Grove is 10 mph. The hours for riding in Richmond are until 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 12:30 Friday, Saturday and any day preceding a holiday. These hours will be strictly enforced and any violations will be subject to a $35 fine from the town board and result in the possible closing of the trail. Spring Grove hours are 11 p.m. Mofttlay thru Thursday and 12:30"Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The new markings on the golf course with white cards are not part of the trajl and are not to be followed. These markings are for use by the safety classes. The cooperation of all club members is needed in ob serving these regulations and keeping the trail open for our use. Well, you can't win 'em all. We're big in town, too You don't have to live in the country to take advantage of life and health insurance from Country Life. It's true that Country Life was started --more than 45 years ago --to serve the special needs of Illinois farmers. But we've helped a lot of city folks with their life insurance problems, too. So we know how to help you protect your fam ily, educate your children, provide for retirement. Wherever you live--whatever your business- let's visit about your life insurance needs. You wouldn't believe it Sunday when gas stations were closed. Always heard warnings that you shouldn't mix alcohol with gasoline, but our scientists had better come up with some kind of a mixture. * All reports indicate that people are sick of Watergate. They want gas in their tanks. The economy of the country has been hit hard because of the energy crisis. For our part - since we can't have a horse - we want an electric car. Forget the Tiger in our tank. Had the pleasure of attending the presentation of a life saving machine by A1 Bitzer at the Illinois Coil Spring Company to the McHenry Rescue Squad on Friday. This generous gesture (one of many by the same donor) can mean a lot to oia entire community. A tour of the Illinois Coil Spring factory gave us a lot to think about. It is a great boost to McHenry. Notre Dame was No. 1 for a week in college basketball, but the game Saturday night left no doubt that U.C.L.A. belongs. They have the big man plus a lot of other talent. SUDDEN THOUGHT - Why do we plank ourselves down at the outside of a church pew when we know darn well we will have to shove over? In another release from Western Illinois University, we learn that swimming Coach Verne Wilhelm "was pleased with the efforts of backstroker Rick Swanson (McHenry)." Such news also pleases McHenry sports fans. There must have been joy in the Jim Althoff family camp last week when Bradley's basketball team beat the U. of I. Many of you know that Tim Althoff is on the Bradley squad. Those two teams hadn't met in 37 years. Bet the Qlini are wishing they had waited for 40. We were successful in getting' Jerry Rogers to cover his "curly" noggin' with a stocking cap. Also got him to get rid of that orange jacket, but haven't seen a green one on him. THE REBOUNDS were not in McHenry's favor as Libertyville out rebounded the Warriors 20-8 in the first half. In this second period action, Mike Cajthaml, top right, bats the rebound from the Wildcat cagfr, towards teammate Steve Koerber (52), but Baffin (23) is in position and captured it. z (STAFF PHOTO-WAYNE GAYLORD) County College Scots Win 60-51 Over Kishwaukee McHenry County College made it 2 in a row as they edged past Kishwaukee 60 to 51 in a basketball game at Crystal Lake. The victory marked the first time in two years that the Scots have been able to post back to back victories. The win was sweet revenge for a 93 to 80 defeat handed the Scots by this same Kishwaukee team on Jan. 8 at Malta. Dave Bell provided the spark needed to push the Scots in front to stay as he hit 3 straight field goals to start the second half. The score had been tied 26 'at intermission. Dale Groskinsky and Jim Bushert led the rebounding for the Scots with 13 and 12 rebounds respectively and this was a big factor in the win.
