HORNSBYS 4400 West Route 120 McHenry 111. Sweet Adelines Pass Audition For Charter McHenry Mrs. Rose Lillegard Shores 385-8500 Darlene Navarrol, left, Vonnie Wynveen, Dottie Kaufman (duck), Pat Gattone and Cathy Gattone perform their rendition of "Rubber Ducky" at a recent guest night at Parkland school. TTiis photo of the Sweet Adelines was taken at the dedication of the new Woodstock band shell. From left, members are Dottie Kaufman, Pam Messel, Lorraine Blom, Shirley Toole, Pam Ryden, Cathy Gattone, Vonnie Wynveen, Pat Gattone, director, and Maria Guettler. Much excitement filled the rehearsal room at Parkland school recently when the prospective McHenry chapter of Sweet Adelines officially passed their audition to become chartered into the international organization of Sweet Adelines. The prospective McHenry chapter originally began in Woodstock and has been working toward a charter for two years under the direction of Mrs. Pat Gattone of McHenry. Several qualifications had to be met-the final being to prove to the regional director of Music that the chapter was learning and singing Barbershop music properly. Sweet Adelines originally began in Oklahoma when a group of women decided that women as well as men could get into the act. It quickly caught on and before long, there were many groups singing bar bershop harmony. Today there are over 2,000 Sweet Adelines across the U.S. and Canada. There is also a prospective chapter in LMdon. Sweet Adelines, Inc. is a non profit civic group, a barbershop harmony organization for women. It is designed to promote harmony, to entertain in its own area and to educate its members in the art of four- part harmony, barbershop style. The McHenry chapter meets every Tuesday night at Parkland school, Ringwood road and Route 120, from 7:30 to 9:30. Anyone interested is welcome to join any time. After attending three sessions, a prospective member may officially become a member. Each year a Sweet Adeline chapter may compete in its own region. At this time, a big convention is held and each chorus performs before a panel of judges. They are judged on singing ability, poise, stage performance, etc. Regional winners may then go on to compete in international competition. HOSPITALIZED We were very sorry to hear that Doris Munroe was recently hospitalized but very glad to hear that she is now home and doing just fine. Joseph Mondry has been in Sherman hospital for the past three weeks and I'm sure that he would welcome all get-well cards. We have also been informed that a former resident, Mrs. Mary Carroll, after a two and a half month stay in the hospital is now at home. If you wish to send Mary a card please contact Sandra Mover 385-8646. PROUD PARENTS . Jerry and Susie Van Riper announce the arrival of a new daughter. Kathy Marie, on Dec. 31. Our congratulations to the Van Ripers. HAPPY WANDERERS Many friends have inquired as to where we went on our vacation. We spent two days in Champaign-Urban visiting friends and then drove on to the sun^y state of Florida to visit my mother. During our stay in Clearwater we took off for Sarasota and saw the Bellms Car and Music of Yesterday and the Circus Hall of Fame. Our home base was Clearwater t o w h i c h w e r e t u r n e d f o r several more days and then left for Orlando and Disney World. During our stay at Disney World we camped at Foft Wilderness and acted like children for three lovely days. Our trip continued onto historic St. Augustine where we saw so much that I have forgotten half of it already. On our return trip to Clearwater we stopped overnight to visit relatives in Orlando. We spent our final week in Clearwater and visited the ever famous Bush Gardens. If you ever have an opportunity to visit Florida don't miss Bush Gardens. On our return trip we stayed with some friends in Louisville, Ky., and arrived home very tired two days later to see all of the snow and a wish to return to the 80 degree temperatures. My many thanks to all the fine people who pin ched in and helped during my absence. To Sandra Moyer, Clarence and Agnes Sch- weikert, Mary Lou Heald, Mary Ann Zutaut, Jeffrey Hoffman, Sheri Blue, Karen Novotny and Mildred Snively my many thanks. HELP-HELP In the process of moving the village clerk's office a list of all the fine people who so graciously volunteered to offer help in the clerk's office has been lost. I would appreciate it very much if those people would call me. I am also looking for several high school seniors who would like to offer their help in the office to type and do small iobs for me. For the senior high school students the opportunity offers actual office experience so vitally needed when applying for a job after graduation. If interested call me at 385-8500.
