You do not have to have children in the league to help us. We are trying to get surrounding communities interested in starting leagues for more competition. We need managers, coaches, team mothers, fund raisers, and sponsors. In 1973 our senior pigtail league took first place in the regional playoffs and our JHPonytail league took second place. Let's help our girls keep up the good work. For ad ditional information please call Dorothy Cooley, 497-4146 or Kim Zeoli, 497-3581. The winner and runnerup in the sectional will qualify for the state finals to be held at Champaign on March 1 and 2. good. The Cards at the present have to be the best team in the North Suburban. The Warriors would like nothing better than to win their final two games, and you know they will be gunning for their third straight regional crown the first week in March. So let's go Warriors, you can get the job done on Saturday, and next week against the Tigers. title to John Dobbie 28 and 1, by a score of 11 to 4. Steve led at one point 4 to 1, then Dobbie of Crystal Lake, showed why he had such a fine record, by reversing Steve and going on to a decisive victory. At 185 lbs Bob Eppel 9-4 lost to Bill Shafer of Crystal Lake by a score of 6-1. The match was even at 1 apiece with a minute to go, when Bob was taken down. Bob had shown superior wrestling up to that point, but one mistake can cost you the match in wrestling. Eppel had shut out two earlier opponents. Bob Caladine of Grant was defeated 3-0, and Bill Weaver of Woodstock 2-0. At heavyweight at only 190, Mike Thornton 16-5 lost a 1-0 decision to Ed Tavierne the heavyweight from Grant who tipped the scales at 251. 61 lbs was just too much weight for even a fine wrestler as Mike is to give to an opponent. Mike in the previous match, perhaps did his finest job of his 4 year career, when he defeated Luhmeyer of Woodstock (21-5) by a score of 5-0. He advanced to the finals by beating Crystal Lake's Pete Brandt 3-0. These four fine gentlemen will wrestle at the Barrington sectional starting Friday Feb. 22 at 7 p.m. Placing first or second at Barrington would advance the first Warrior "grappler" to the State Finals since 1968. Good luck to Ken, Steve, Bob and Mike from all Warrior fans. Four Warrior Wrestlers Advance To Sectional At Barrington Tonight tors ha\ By Dick Rabbitt Four Warrior wrestlers turned in superior efforts last weekend at the Antioch District tournament. This is the first time since 1968 that more than one Warrior has advanced to the State sectional. It was also the most points scored in a District by a Warrior team since 1968 when they won the tourney under Coach Bill Hutchinson. The Warriors have had a slow season, mostly due to many forfeits where they just didn't have anjr-grapglers. Their season did a conTplete^tur- naround from a dismal 2 and 13 record by showing their skills when it counted. Many fans thought that wrestling was on the downgrade, but those few that Coach Palmateer has are very fine individuals. Their record speaks for themselves. A rundown on the Warriors who will be in the Barrington sectional. At 105 lbs Ken Scanlin with a record of 12 and 7. Lost the district championship to the Woodstock wrestler who now has a record of 27 and 1. Ken advanced to the finals by defeating Crystal Lake's Ken Sather 6-1 and Antioch's Bill Senseron 3-0. At 145 lbs, defending champ Steve Hurckes, 17 and 6 lost his MCHS SOPHOMORE CHEERLEADERS - These pretty girls have cheered the Soph cagers to a 13-8 overall record so far this season. In the front row are 1-r Karen Day, Debbie Justen and Dawn Welsh - captain. In the back are Vicki Matesi, Val Lenzie, Joy Vyduna EARL WALSH' So I Hear Freshmen Edge . Barrington 46-42 Robert Redford, Johnson- and on top is Cheryl Hermissolo. Saturday night the girls will travel to Crown High School where the McHenry Warrior Sophomore and Varsity teams hope to improve their conference record. (STAFF PHOTO-WAYNE GAYLORD) Once again the Paris designers are telling the girls what length skirts they will wear. From what we hear they are half way between the knee and the ankle. We heard some gals say indignantly, "We won't wear them." Ha! They'll wear 'em. Paris says so. From our observation, there is only one direction for those skirts to go. Don't forget the McHenry Sportsman's Club Meat Shoot next Sunday. Meat on the table/ you know, - . We don't always put out standing bowling scores in this corner, but Holy Smokers- Look at this! Glanced over the Ten Pin Queens' scores and saw this - C. Kern 224-216. That is great bowling. There were several good scores in that group such as Bette O'Brien's 222-555. Kept looking and found Ronnie Romkowski with a 225 game in a 555 series with the Tuesday Nighters. Lil Michels chimed in with 202-55. Can't quite make out the name, but Linda somebody rolled a 518 series. No wonder the men stopped sending in scores. Had another pleasant time early Wednesday morning attending Patriotic Day sponsored by sixth grade pupils at Parkland School. More people should attend those days. It does something to you and for you. It makes one swell with pride to see those boys and girls conduct their program. We like 'em. Marian Central's basketball team is a sure winner in their coming game with Carmel. We hesitated to make predictions on games for the Woodstock Sentinel, but joined the crowd. When it came to the Marian game, our hopes were for the Marian Hurricanes. But, what the heck! We never picked a winner in sports so why not pick Carmel. That makes Marian a sure winner. Watch. 2-17-74 Dearest Cousin Earl, One wonders at the state of affairs in thig country with Watergate, the energy crisis, the Cubs, etc., but to what depths have we fallen when cousin Quentin is seen driving his Pontiac with expired license plates? "Quentin the careful" lets Feb. 15 slip by unnoticed? my word, Rosie will have to do better about keeping him on his toes! Yours, A concerned "Cousin" Guess it is time somebody got concerned if that kid is getting forgetful. Must be Rosie forgot to get out her tools and put the plates on the car. -Another Concerned Cousin- D. Hiller (that must be Dorothy) is listed with 197 game in a 528 series with the Tomasello's Thursday Night girls. A little more wiggle (on the pins) and you could have had a 200 game. Dorothy. Glad to hear from Mary Hetterrmann Debrecht from Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Says she just read our Feb. 8 column and was glad to be where the temperature is in the upper 70's and 80's. They get the Plaindealer down there - a week late, but still welcome. Have fun in the sun, Mary. The freshmen Cagers journeyed to Barrington on Saturday and a cold first half found them down by 15 points early in the second half. Loren Klapperich and Bill Hurckes combined for 19 second half points, as the Warriors out- scored Barrington 15 to 3 in the third period, and downed the hosts for the second time this season. Randy Schiller and John Rudolph led the locals in the rebounding, and Brian Miller led the team in assists. "So far the turnout has been great," said head wrestling coach Paul Palmateer. They have between 20-30 fifth and sixth graders and between 40-50 seventh and eighth graders. Wrestling is a sport where each youngster wrestles an opponent at his own weight. It is a sport where everyone can learn and participate. This c£nic that has been going on for the past two weeks is both helpful to the individual and school curriculum. A lot of thanks should go out to the wrestling Warrior coaches for their time and support of the community's youngsters. Warriors At Crown On Saturday Night Dependable Travel Since 19*1 385-7500 Area Code 815 By Dick Rabbitt The McHenry high Warriors, hoping to shake off the effects of the beating at the hands of the Dundee Cardunals, travel to Crown tomorrow night to take on the Vikings. The Warriors with just a slim chance to share die North Suburban crown, will face an improved Crown team. Although the Vikings rest in last place in the North Suburban with an 0 and 10 record, they have shown a marked improvement the last several weeks. Dundee edged the Vikes in the closing seconds 47 to 40 two weeks ago, and last week they lost to Crystal Lake by a scant two point margin. The Warriors cannot take this game lightly. Crown would like nothing better than to avenge an earlier 71-62 loss at the hands of the Warriors. . The Warriors are still a good ^all team. Against Dundee it was just a matter of Dundee being too big, too fast, and too
