Taft indicated that the major achievement of the council in 1973 was the selfction of an executive director. Other of­ ficers are Peter Diamond, PhD (Elgin State hospital) Vice-president; William C. The new McHenry hospital to be known as the Northern Illinois Medical center will be located on Rt. 31. The new building will consist of 210 beds and extensive out­ patient facilities. Plans are for 5ie present 144-bed hospital to provide psychiatric, extended care and rehabilitation ser­ vices and at a later date custodial and sheltered care should community needs dictate. The Central DuPage ex­ pansion program will add 152 beds and ancillary supporting services as a major addition to the hospital's central wing. Architects are now preparing detailed drawings with an­ ticipated completion 2xk years after groundbreaking. Dr. Gerald F. Staub, chairman of the Illinois Perinatal Planning committee, told the group that the com­ mittee of physicians, nurses, administrators and designated hospital personnel has been working with the Illinois Department of Public Health on a set of guidelines for hospitals and doctors to employ in the identification and care of high risk mothers and infants. Purpose of the plan is to develop a program to further reduce morbidity and mortality of infants in the state. Staub emphasized that the primary emphasis of the guidelines is educational. Hospitals are required under state regulations to have written plans for maternal and infant care. Sister Mary St. Bride (Margaret Sutton) 53 years old, of Mary Queen of Heaven parish, Cicero, died Friday morning at St. Joseph's Health Resort, Wedron, 111. She was the daughter of the late Bridget and Robert Sutton and was born in McHenry. She taught rural schools in this vicinity until joining the order of B.V.M. about twenty-two years ago. „ Thomas P. Bolger, county administrator, received word Tuesday to cut off 173 more men from CWA work this week which will bring the quota of the county down to 402. This is fifty percent less than the original quota of 851. Alex Adams and Florenz Stenger were entertained at a surprise party in honor of their birthdays Sunday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Adams. Cards were played and the music was furnished by Vincent and Clemens Adams. On Feb. 1, the Triple-F class of the M.E. church Sunday school held a reception for the new members at the home of their teacher, Mrs. L.H. Braitain. Those who were in­ troduced to the mysteries of the club were Miriam Sayler, Rosa Popp, Esther Miller, Evora Carlson and Janice Klontz. Prof. Lee Somers, specialist in gardening from the University of Illinois will conduct the second of a series of lessons in vegetable gardening, March 7, at the Farm Bureau office in Woodstock. Answers to Bart. 385-3689. 2-27 TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of March 3, 1949) The Johnsburg community was shocked March 1 to learn of the unexpected death of Mrs. George Michels, 45. The annual health clinic held each spring in our local schools will begin March 15. It will be conducted by local physicians iih the grade school gym­ nasium. Arthur Thompson is recovering at his home east of the river from a broken leg suffered in a fall on the ice. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Knox and family have moved from the upper apartment in the Wattles building in West McHenry to Woodstock where they have purchased a home. The place they vacated will be occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Bob Smith. Roger Wilbrandt of Riverside drive, McHenry, is one of 150 students at the Galesburg division of the University of Illinois who made grade averages of "B" or better last semester. Feb. 28 was the eightieth anniversary of Harvard as an incorporated community. The act incorporating Harvard as a village was approved on Feb. 28, 1869. Harvard is today a proud and lively city of 3,500 preparing to hold a major election in April. At a meeting of the residents of Wonder Woods held recently a volunteer fire department was formed and the subdivision was divided into four districts. A siren will be installed soon. TEN YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of March 5, 1964) Spring cleaning which is done each year in Boone Creek so that boats will not be damaged in travelling from that point to the river was begun Monday by Donald Looze and Tom Trendler of Marks Marine. Arthur Harris, Bull Valley road, McHenry, has been presented a sow and pig management award by the Moorman Manufacturing company. The award is being made to hog raisers whose sows wean larger than average litters. Miss Carol Lynn Krumsee of Lakeland Park became the bride of Mr. Gary Abrath of Crystal Lake on Feb. 29. A strong Crystal Lake team lived up to its "Tiger" name here Friday night beating our Warriors for the second straight time. There were some fans that didn't get to see the game because the admission doors were locked due to the biggest crowd in the Warrior gym this year. Members of the McHenry Garden Club are planning to attend the Chicago World Flower and Garden show at McCormick Place March 10. Ken Froehlig of Pistakee Terrace has had nothing but parties since his friends and relatives have heard of his going away to serve his country for two years. Williams, R.N., held this month attracted thirty-five nurse educators and practitioners from a wide area. They were present from Rock- ford, Beloit, DeKalb, Elgin, Geneva, Chicago, Waukegan and other north, south and west suburbs. Participants discussed opportunities to expand health care delivery by nursing measures, used to prevent illness, to maintain well being and to restore health.
