Associate Circuit Judge Leonard Brody Pamela A. Minter, McHenry, charged with unlawful use of weapons and possession of cannabis, both charges nolle prossed on a motion by the State's Attorney. We have two serious-minded local agencies under supervision of the <T , County MentalHealth board providing these needed senrices. This referendum is given voters to continue these senrices on the broadened scale required to meet growing demands by our own McHemy county citizens. Referendum is being endorsed editorially with a recommendations for a YES vote by the Woodstock Sentinel, McHemy Plaindealer, Crystal Lake Herald, Harvard Herald, Radio Station WIVS and several other newspapers. Editors have studied it and believe the public should know it, become informed, and vote "Yes." You can vote on the referendum and not declare your party by asking for the White ballot regarding the Mental Health referendum. X. The stage band will also appear in the Northern Illinois Grade School Jazz Band contest which will be held in Rolling Meadows high school Saturday, March 30. One of the featured numbers for this contest will be "Proud Mary", with soloists Frank Rodgers and Steve Williams on t,he traps and bass guitarists, John Kranz. The concert band will end the program with the three selections they will be taking to contest Saturday, March 23. These numbers are "March Grandioso" "Cantus Frimus and Fugue" and "Ceremonial Prelude". Also on the concert will be "Radetsky March" by Strauss and "Trumpet Fun" by Purcell, featuring the band's first trumpet player, Lydia Ruggero. An added feature of this concert will be an alto sax solo, "Nightfall" by John Morrissey. The guest soloist will be Clare Higgins, a freshman at McHenry East campus. Clare has been very active in music since she started band in the fourth grade at Harrison. She has continued this enthusiasm into high school in the freshman band and stage band. She is also a member of the Student Council, GAA, and captain of the freshman cheerleading squad as well as being a straight "A" student. Clare is the first returning graduate to perform as a soloist and the band is very proud to have her play. HERE AND THERE IN BUSINESS JOHN S. METZGER HONORED -- John S. Metzger, a student at Northeastern university in Boston, Mass., was initiated into the Alpha Pi Mu I.E.H.S. He was one of fiive chosen for this honor from the class of 1976, as well as being chosen as a delegate to the national Alpha Pi Mu con­ vention in Gainsesville, Fla. John is a 1971 graduate of Marian Central Catholic high school in Woodstock. . AUDREY WALGENBACH CANDIDATE - Only candidate for the office of County Treasurer is Audrey Walgenbach, (R) who has held the office for the past four years. Because of new state legislation, she is allowed to seek another term. In the past, Treasurers and Sheriffs were not allowed to succeed them­ selves in office. POLITICAL CORNER ROBERT E. POWERS JOINS BANK - Robert E. Powers of Woodstock has joined the McHenry State bank as an assistant vice-president. A graduate of St. Mary's high school, Woodstock, he attended DePaul university, Chicago, for two years. Mr. Powers has attended numerous banking schools, including Illinois Bankers school, SIU, Car- bondale; National Installment Credit school, Norman, Ola.; Seminar for Bank Mangement, Northern Trust company, Chicago; ABA Mortgage Lending workshop, Ohio State university and AIB course, Home Mortgage Lending, Arlington Heights. His entire banking career has been spent with the First National bank of Woodstdck. MEL MILLER CANDIDATE - Mel Miller recently announced his can­ didacy as Democratic precinct committeeman for the GreenwocJ 5 precinct. He is a Socia! Studies - Language Arts /teacher in Harrison School District 36 of Wonder Lake, / where he is currently president of the Harrison Teachers association and chairman of their Political Action com­ mittee.
