Did you know that McHenry is holding registration for all pre-school children who will be 3 by Dec. 1? If you live in District 15 and have a young child, registration is for you. X Through recent Illinois legislation, children 3 years of age of older may be served by the local school system. In 4 conjunction with kindergarten registration, a pre-school census will be conducted. This is the first step in providing educational services for these children in McHenry county. Parents will be asked to complete an information card, brief medical questionnaire, and social history of the child. After a census of all 3 and 4 year old children by the McHenry county elementary school districts, follow-up screening will be provided for some children. Purpose of this screening is to detect any special needs or problems of the pre-school child. Many Hogan of Mountain, Wis., and our own Ron Silzer all share their natal day. Felicia Ann Hogan celebrates her birthday on the twenty-second. Loren Harrison, E.G. "Bud" Winters and Mrs. Leo Smith all will have their cake and eat it too on the twenty-third. Happy tummy aches to you all. On the twenty-third we see that Doris and Walt Low will be celebrating their anniversary. Hope ^ou kids will have many more of them. The very best to you from all of us! children who are screened show no problems, and this is reassuring to parents. The child may need help if he or she has some problems in TALKING as well as he should. No speech, unclear speech, few words, non-English speaking background; LEARNING as fast as he could. Short memory, inability to pay attention, needs frequent repetition, needs "continual direction; BEHAVING as well as he could. Bites, hits,^ tanthims, trouble getting along with parents or other adults, trouble playing with other children; SEEING as well as he should. Often sleepy or squinting, cross-eyed, needs to ^move objects very close to eyes; HEARING as well as he should. Often asks "What", looks ( confused after given directions, makes no move after a loud noise; MOVING as well as he should. Often falls, trouble walking and running, trouble picking up and placing objects, trouble feeding himself. Since the registration is also a pre-school census, parents of each 3 and 4 year old child should register at their schools. Registration for all the pre schoolers will take place March 20, 21 and 22 at Landmark school, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Any questions may be directed to Mr. Burgdorf at the Landmark school office. ARTHUR T. TYRRELL Democrat JOHNC. CARROLL Republican Goodwill Truck Comes To McHenry Friday, March 22 Goodwill Abilities center is unlike other agencies collecting discards, because it is devoted entirely to the service of handicapped men and women, according to Mrs. Nick (Agnes) Adams, local Goodwill representative. Mrs. Adams announced that the Goodwill truck will be in McHenry Friday, March 22, to collect repairable clothing and other housewares to be used in the occupational training centers. Call her for pickup service. In general, the contributors understand that Goodwill is prohibited by the fire marshals to collect newspapers, com bustibles and other items which might be a hazard to the handicapped trainees. The material best adaptable in<the Goodwill Abilities center program are items which can be worked on at a bench or table, requiring only a minimum of lifting. Disabled men suffering from arthritis, bursitis, Parkinson's disease, epilepsy, amputees and many others are unable to work with furniture or large appliances. No newspapers or com bustibles. Welders, blow tor ches and hazardous equipment are prohibited in the average Goodwill workshop. For complete information about the program and a free presentation at your church or club meeting call 385-0863.
