PAGE It r PLAINDEALER - WEDNESDAY, MARCH 27.1974 Spring Grove Eva Freund 675-2135 Christian Mothers Hear Talks From Two Members Members of the Christian Mothers Society of St. Peter's met at the parish hall for their meeting on Thursday evening, March 21. Meeting was opened with a prayer and pledge allegiance to the flag by President Beverly Schmitt. Reports were given on the St. Patrick Day card party and the Father-Son breakfast. Both were successful and a thank you was extened to committees and all who helped. Eva Freund gave a talk on cancer and stated that the cancer drive would start in Burton Township through April and May. Jean Kagan spoke on the "Right to Life" and presented an informative display. The President appointed Frances Heinemann as nominating chairman. It was announced that the cleaning of the church would be on Tuesday, April 9th after 8 a.m. mass. Members were urged to come, much help is needed to prepare the church for Holy Wedc services and Easter Sunday. Children who have attended CCD classes in preparation for this event will receive their first Holy Communion on Sunday, April 21. A special mass will be celebrated for the first Communicants at 12:30 p.m. Father Kilduff spoke briefly. He thanked the mothers for their cooperation in bringing the altar boys in time to sorve at mass on their appointed days and asked for participation from those who attend week day mass.The Way of the Cross as we live it in the world today was presented by children from a CCD class. The President offered books to read on loan. The next meeting will be on Aptfl 18. 1CWC Eighteen members of the Lotus Country Woman's Club enjoyed a luncheon prepared for them by the committee in charge on Wednesday afternoon, March 20, at the town hall. All present admired the great improvement made to die interior of the hall. Wood panelling on the walls, a new ceiling with inserted fluorescent lights and the kitchen will be completely rejuvenated with new cupboards, counter space and floor. The dub has donated new drapes. Sunset Drive, Wonder Lake, announce the birth of a daughter, Jamie Ray, on March 5, in Memorial Hospital for McHenry County, Woodstock. Jamie weighed 7 lbs. 2 ozs. at birth and has two sisters, Kelly, 7, and Emily, 3. Maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Ray Fasse, Cary. BELATED BIRTHDAYS Belated birthday greetings to Karen Utes who celebrated on March 22. And a belated happy birthday to Donna Beyer, who took time off from her busy duties as Kachina Neighborhood Girl Scout cookie chairman on March 22, to spend her birthday with her husband, Jim. BUSY WEEK It's a busy week in the home of Jack and JoAnn Liggett of Oakwood Shores. JoAnn's mom and dad, Dick and Rosa Daw, of Quincy, will be here to help their grandson, John, celebrate his third birthday on March 29. And on April l, the Daws will celebrate their wedding anniversary. Happy birthday, John, and happy anniversary, Dick and Rosa. HAPPY BIRTHDAY Happy birthday to our Papa Joe Berner, who chalks up a pretty special one this year when he turns 80 years old on March 28. His memories of McHenry include bringing a load of wheat to the mill to be ground into flour, away back when. He looks forward to Earl Walsh's column in the Plaindealer (tho he's a Cub fan) and the Twice Told Tales. Guess he even reads the Wonder Lake news now and then! While his health no longer ermits him to produce the ?e garden he did a few years ago (his sweet corn was the biggest and most delicious we'vfi ever tasted; his green thumb is still active and when we visited him last Sunday, marigolds were blooming in the living room. Young Ross Ruzicka, son of Tiny and Rich Ruzicka, will be six years old on that day. Jay Cristy will celebrate another one. Earl Miller of Spring Grove, who is just back from a great trip to Las Vegas with his Sonia, will be cutting his cake. Mary Gibbons, daughter of Kay and Tim Gibbons, will be twelve years old on the twenty-eighth. Happy celebrating to all of you who were bom on the twenty- eighth. Happy birthday to Christine Mogdans, daughter of Tony and Mary Jane Mogdans. Christine will be four years old on March 29. LAS VEGAS TRIP Those who flew to Las Vegas for a vacation were Mr. and Mrs. Earl Miller, Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Komar, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Gwizdala, Mr. and Mrs. John Krumpen and Mr. and Mrs. William Krumpen. I hear the high winner was Mrs. Komar. They also hit the night spots and saw such celebrities as Andy Williams, Wayne Newton, Bobby Gentry and the Lennon Sisters. I would say all of this was enough for one trip but there's more....guess what....there was a "streaker" on the plane. CANCER CRUSADE The Cancer Crusade Kick-Off dinner was held in Crystal Lake on March 11. Mrs. Walter Brown and Mrs. Arthur Kattner attended the dinner. During vApril and May volunteers will be ringing doorbells for contributions in the cancer drive. Please be generous. Much improvement has been made in the cure of cancer by your help in this fund. ATTENDS CONVENTION John Vierke , who is the curriculum director of Grant Township Educational Co­ operative attended the convention of National Association of Supervision and Conservation Teacher Of Year Entries Sought Teachers who have conducted imaginative programs focusing on environmental needs and who have been leaders in this area of service are urged to submit entries for the McHenry county "Conservation Teacher of the Year." The announcement calling for entiries comes from Robert Fleck, president of the McHenry County Soil and Water Conservation district, who announced details of the county, state and "national competition. Entry forms are available at the district office on North Curriculum Directors. He and Mrs. Vierke and children Ann and Mark flew to Anaheim, Calif. They also (dan on taking in some of the sights. Seminary street, Woodstock, and at the offices of many school superintendents. More than one entry can come from teachers in a single school district, stresses Fleck. Competition is divided into two categories: Kindergarten through fifth, and sixth through high school grades. For the first time county winners will compete in . regional competition. Those winners of the sixteen regionals in the first two classes will compete in state-wide competition. The two state winners fix* the first time will vie in national competition, a first and a compliment to Illinois leaders who established this recognition program for teachers. Sponsors of the contest in McHenry county are the McHenry County Soil and Water Conservation district and the office of the county superintendent of schools. State-wide competition is sponsored by the Illinois Soil and Water Conservation district and the Department of Conservation Education in the office of the superintendent of public instruction. Winners in the regional competition receive a practical award, a scholarship to an environmental education workshop which entitles the participants to receive college credits for the week long affair. In the past, McHenry county has had two state runner-up winners during recent years. Charles Little, Woodstock, and Norn Ziemer, Crystal Lake, are the recognized honored outstanding conservation teachers. HERE AND THERE IN BUSINESS PROMOTED Terrence E. Ward has been appointed vice-president, operations, Power group, of Burndy Corp., Norwalk, Connec., it has just been announced by the group's vice- president and general manager, James J. Hennessy. In this new position, Ward has overall responsibility for connector operations of the group, including production,- material and inventory control, manufacturing engineering and quality control.
