Or did some joker paint those words on the old hull after the wreck? Either way the irony wasn't wasted. Lots of people used to sail through life confidently and contentedly. Today they aren't so sure they're on the right course. There are some who think it's only a matter of time before our whole civilization runs aground. Christianity has often been called "the religion of another chance." Yes, for Christ teaches that we can rise out of our failures through God's forgiveness and power. Millions today are rediscovering Christian precepts. It is a new genera tion which will soon be sailing toward a Christian destiny.« ff Scriptures Selected By The American Bible Society Copyright 1974 Keister Advertising Service, Inc., Strasburg, Virginia Monday Exodus - 20:1-17 Tuesday Psalms 19:8-11 Wednesday Luke 13:1-9 Thursday Romans 5:1-8 Friday I Samuel 16:1-13 Saturday Psalms St John the Baptist Catholic Church Johnsburg Rev. "This was the rawest material I've heard on radio yet. Now I realize maturity denotes the ability to discuss things intellectually without condemnation, but I still prefer the niceties of life, the illusion of loveliness, tenderness, tactfulness and good taste. "As with life, sex can range %om the sublime to the sordid. For it's all in our power of choice. Joshua 24:15. "I'm firmly opposed to censorship, yet don't believe in a no holds barred attitude either, in something as unpalatable as this. So where I don't condone, and I mustn't condemn, there's still an avenue open. We needn't sample all that's served. For we can be in the world, yet not of the world. "In Sincerity, "Evelyn Gustafson "7111N. Oak Street "Wonder Lake" Volunteers In Annual Cancer Crusade April I An Army of several hundred volunteers goes forward on a two-pronged mission starting Monday, the beginning of the 1974 Cancer Crusade in McHenry county. This Army of 500 here is part of more than 2 million volunteers who will be calling on friends and neighbors with two purposes: 1. Distribute vital information about the seven warning signals of cancer, and urge people to have a checkup. 2. Seek their contribution in this quest to whip cancer in our lifetime. "That's the theme running through the Cancer Crusade, one of the motivating factors in this annual determination to inform and seek funds," says Mrs. Joan Dorsch, chairman of the McHenry county Cancer Crusade for the second year. Co-chairman is Ed Schutt, Harvard. "Support of research is one way to achieve that goal--to whip cancer in our lifetime-- but right now we could save more lives from cancer if people would cooperate," asserts Mrs. Dorsch. "Cancer is most curable when caught early and treated promptly. For this reason, the job of informing people about the seven danger signals is a vital part of our Crusade effort." The McHenry County Cancer Crusade goal this year is $40,000, a slight increase over last year's record high collection from individuals, businesses and industries. Clarence Sisson, Marengo, chairman of the McHenry county chapter of the American Cancer society, voiced confidence that the citizens of the county will continue to respond thoughtfully and generously as members of this select Army make their calls.
