HERE AND THERE ' Walt and Doris Low went -traveling up into Wisconsin with John and Marge Granath from McHenry last weekend. They left in that snow on Saturday morning and the*8' farther north they went the worse it got. Up around the Wisconsin Rapids area they had had a heavy wet snow on Wednesday and the lines were still down on Saturday, roe trees that were broken off at the top were unbelievable, a sad sight. They say the whirlpool is terrific at a certain motel in Wisconsin Rapids. New folks have moved into the Miller apartment at 4908 Barnard Mill road: They are Pat and Don Carlson from up in Wisconsin, and their 6 year old daughter Dawn and five month old baby boy. Welcome to Ringwood. Guess Pat is originally from McHenry. Here And There In Business Consumer Program Helps Driver With Gasoline Economy A consumer program developed to help drivers check cars for maximum engine efficiency and gasoline economy was announced by the local GM dealer in McHenry. It is part of a national campaign with the potential of saving U.S. car owners literally millions of gallons of gas this year. The program, titled "Energy Check USA," is being sponsored by General Motors Parts division, which serves GM's five automobile divisions. Most of GM's 12,000 dealers are participating in the Energy Check effort. If all car owners would check their cars for economy and keep them properly tuned, they'd not only save a lot of gas for themselves but millions of gallons would be saved for everyone. The dealers said that the company is not just promoting the idea, but is setting lower prices on related services through May 31. They include an inexpensive economy checkup and the more familiar engine tune-up. The national Energy Check program will include a direct mail invitation to over 12 million GM owners to have J One you "ytllG Larg{ 2 MORE WEEKS HURRY! i°*A J* 5V? *e BunmJ .Dra»int> c«fe Self's dta lister are "estro '"ies And",'!?*"1 &X Sma" 12 Cute 1 ror 3 es a" • *'y el'gible afkr each held on s " J * Ones. v'ng. Scott declared that the survival of the Illinois Environmental act has been insured by a legal victory won by his office in the Hlinois Supreme court. The state Supreme court decision upheld Scott's contention that the Illinois Pollution Control board has the power to impose discretionary penalties on polluters. Without this power, the board's effectiveness in the fight against pollution within the state would be drastically reduced, Scott said. their cars checked. Newspaper and radio advertising will also be used to support the local dealer's invitation to owners to have their cars "energy- checked." The state high court decision came in a case involving the city of Waukegan's successful Appellate court challenge to the Pollution board's power. Attorney General. Scott's argument that the board's power was constitutional was upheld by the Illinois Supreme court which overturned the ^earlier appellate ruling.
