of romantic The soft new dresses and suits are a welcome change from all the classics and PAGE 16-SUPPLEMENT TO PLAINDEALER-FRI., APRIL 5. 1974 Ms. Fashion Aristocrat desires refinement Men's fashions The Spring '74 woman has to be a fashion aristo crat ... in these tight- money times, she can't afford to buy throw-aways. Only very special clothes will tempt her refined tastes. With her wardrobe of classics and basics, she already takes quality and function for granted. Now designers catch her with honey . . . with at mosphere -- an aura of luxury . . . with vanity -- the prettiest, most femi nine looks ever. They're directing her in lady-of-the-manor roles with overtones of Mrs. Miniver and Loretta Young . . . cleared out the trash from fashion . kept a look that is relevant today, yet full of romantic drama. The Spring '74 woman makes her deout in longer, graceful skirts, lean tops and roomy jackets, all carefully choreographed with the perfect accesso ries: brimmed hats; dis creet jewelry that blends with the clothes; a smaller more delicate shoe. Daytimes are for the softest dresses, for sepa rates that work in well- coordinated ways. Even ings are for romantic dreams in clouds of chiffon or clinging slinks. Classics melt down into soft suit looks. Colors are naturally "up": clear bright pastels, gentle bis cuits and creme, moody neutrals. Floral prints go to garden parties. The new Spring propor tion is full on top, slim below or vice versa. That's the "fashion math" this Spring. Big-skirts are familiar, but designers don't dictate any more; they give us tic fresl plenty of alternatives. What makes the "big" look really new is the light, un-cumbersome fabrics. The big top flies free over pants and slim skirts, day or evening. pants we've seen. Are pants out? No, siree! But those who are longing for a new dressed-up look that's super-feminine are really in luck this Spring! SHAPELY FABRICS Fabric choice is con sidered one way to alter appearance without changing measurements. The figure can "look" heavier in bold patterned dresses, thick fluffy fab rics and shiny materials. But flat, mat-surfaced fabrics slenderize shapes. Put new life into your spring garments . . . A SPECIAL LOOK for entertaining at home this Spring and Summer is what The Men's Fashion Association pre dicts men will want. The relaxed look comes out on top with this natural, polyester and rayon linen-look shirt-suit accented with dark brown topstitching. The semi-con structed suit is completed with cuff slacks and shirt styled cuffs. Keeping him c6ol is a green, brown and natural plaid, cotton short sleeve, button-down shirt.
