MEN'S FASHION According to the Men's Fashion Association, the men's fashion scene for Spring-Summer '74 is geared to every man and every budget. It is an eclectic scene, made up of the most pop ular looks from decades gone by. namely, the thir ties, forties and fifties. The result is a look for every fashion taste with no sin gle trend greatly domi nating. Suit models will include the standard two-button, single-breasted type with moderate shaping; some with tailored shoulders, others with soft shoulders. Fabric emphasis will be on linen and linen looks plus madras, silk and silk look-alikes. In patterns, . plaids will emerge as the favored look. There will also be high ly styled west coast looks plus traditional models with natural shoulders in both two- and three-but ton styles. Vests will be seen with many of these suits. Sportcoats will feature bold plaids, checks and overplaids balanced by a wide choice of solid col ors, with white playing a strong role. There will also be many textured fabrics such as seersuckers, linen looks and nlisses. Slacks will come in dou ble-knits and warp-knits as well as woven blends of polyester with worsteds, cottons and rayons. Im portant fabrics will in clude linens, Madras and gabardines In giant plaids, glen plaids and many dif ferent checks. 'Shirt trend* Traditional shirts will feature oxford cloth. Col ors will be on the cool side in madrases, batistes, broadcloths and ging hams. "Comfort fabrics" such as knits ahd stretch wovens will also be strong. There will be a moderate trend towards the half- Sl66V6 In sport shirts, there will be many knits in both fancies and solid colors with choices of polo col lars, crew-necks, V-necks and boat-necks. Woven shirts feature linen-looks, ginghams, rough textured effects and seersuckers. Embroidered Western-style shirts will be very important along with baseball looks and shirts that are themed to tennis, boating and golf. There will be a wide selec tion of prints as well as plaids, checks and solid colors. Also noticed will be an upsurge of pullover models. Color comeback Solid colors will see a big increase in pastel shades including yellow and shrimp. Models will in clude straight legs, flares and even modified bag gies. There will also be a revival of Bermuda shorts. In topcoats, there will be a resurgence of authen tic raglans, tie-belt wrap arounds and polo coats. Fabrics will include gab ardines and camel hairs plus saxonies in checks and plaids. Raincoats will be short er with many models fea turing raglan sleeves. Plaids ana checks will supplement solid color tans, navy blues and whites and off-whites. Many of the more fash ionable coats will have harmonizing color stitch ing trims. Most noticed in dress shirts will be the big in crease in solid colors, in pale pastels and deep bright tones. In addition, checks- plaid and stripes will still be very popular. Surface Interest fabrics range from tone-on-tones ana white-on-whites to linen-types, satin stripes and ventilated weaves such as lenos and skip- dents.
