V Explain Mini-Projects V For District 15 Board Mrs. Jeanne Ludwig acted as chairperson for a presentation of the District 15 Mini-project -program, made to members of the school board in a meeting at Hilltop school Tuesday night" Several other faculty members involved in the program also made appearances and described some of the activities. Mrs. Ludwig told of taking one group of children to a Mill Run performance of "Hansel and Gretel" and of plans to take another group in the spring. There were evidences of the impressions of the young pupils through art work in the lowa- grade rooms. Among other extra curricular projects undertaken to benefit the children is included an art study program in which famous paintings are brought to the sfrhool for study. In another project, ten boys are learning the techniques of ARREST THREE IN THEFTS INVESTIGATE OTHER BREAK-INS (Continued from page 1) responsible for a burglary at the home of David Koshnick of 3908 John street, Solon Mills, on March 21. Four pocket watches and several old coins were recovered from the offenders. It was also determined that one of the youths had been responsible for burglarizing the home of Estelle Ascherl of 4000 North street, Solon Mills, March 24, where money had been taken. Both youths were turned over to juvenile authorities for the offenses of burglary. The J&L gas station at 810 W. Rand road, McHenry, was burglarized twice in two days last week. Thursday morning about 2 o'clock, entry was made by breaking out a window in the front of the building. Taken were about thirty-eight cartons of assorted brands of cigarettes. Friday afternoon it was discovered that ten 8-track stereo cartridges had been taken while the attendant was waiting on a customer. Two persons were seen entering the building but their identity was not determined. When the James Hull family of 705 Annabelle drive, McHenry, returned home last Thursday afternoon after being away for two hours, they discovered their home had been burglarized. Taken from the premises were banks containing change amounting to approximately $95. Gerald Peschke of 6802 Normandy drive, Spring Grove, reported that $20 in change had been taken from his home while he was at work last Friday. It is believed the offender entered through a garage door. -- The unoccupied home of Kenneth Beaudoin of Wright avenue, McHenry, was entered last week. All the windows of the home were smashed and a rod and reel were taken as well as an Alaskan bow. Sometime during the past two weeks, a chain saw and masonry tools were taken from an equipment trailer at Lakeland Construction, West Route 120, McHenry. A cutting torch was used to cut the lock from the door of the trailer. processing film during a four- wee* photography course. Hand puppets and their use is another area of learning. In one class, puppets were made by adults and used by the youngsters in story telling and for Social Studies. In another class, six boys presented their puppets in an original story, "The Great Cookie Robbery", which they have given for all kindergarten and first grade classes. The play was complete to the commercial and was well received by an appreciative audience. One particular class is developed to test alertness for children who have difficulty relating the written word with what they hear. Memory work is stressed. The Alpha program was described as of particular appeal to young pupils in their efforts to learn the alphabet. Among these youngsters, too, there were many who showed a wistfulness for a time of less rush and confusion - even for a day - like the Golden Age, that may never have been. A sociologist could gather material for a creditable doctoral thesis on the "whys" for this dizzying growth of interest in treasures of the past.
