CONSERVATION MEETING The McCullom Lake Conservation Club welcomes everyone to a meeting A special organization with Farm Bureau support has been formed, and McHenry county farmerg are invited to join for mutual benefit. It's goal is to generate increased profits from corn!. The three-year-old Illinois Corn Growers association is expanding its membership rapidly now, following establishment of a contracture agreement with the Illinois Agricultural association. McHenry County Farm Bureau members are in District I of the ICGA, and at the annual meeting earlier this month, Joe Faivre, prominent DeKalb farmer, was elected a director. Jack Young, Spring Grove poultry farmer who is the IAA District I director, is also on this board representing the IAA. Also in District I are Boone, Lake, Kane, Code, DuPage, Kendall, Will and DeKalb counties. KeKalb county farmers have formed their own DeKalb County Corn Growers association with sixty-eight charter members following a talk by three marketing specialists last month. District I has about 6,000 of the state's 90,000 com growers. Purpose of the ICGA is to intensify the promotion, development of new and expanded markets for corn and corn products, and research on corn production. Larry Groce, ICGA manager who is the assistant director of marketing for the IAA, said Farm Bureau speaks well for agriculture but it also recognizes the contribution of the commodity approach. "Sometimes more impact is possible when farmers speak on a commodity basis-it is more individual and can be more intense." Added Groce: "Many livestock men who feed corn recognize that historically if the price of corn drops substantially, it doesn't take long before livestock numbers increase and profits decline. All farmers-cash grain and livestock-have a stake in the profitability of corn and the service possibilities of the Illinois Corn Growers association." Jim Book, Harvard livestock farmer who is chairman of the McHenry County Farm Bureau marketing committee, is interested in boosting the Thursday evening, April 18, at 8 p.m. in the Spojnia barn. They need new support to further develop our lake. West Shore Beach residents can walk to the meeting this month! Please try to attend. PERSONALS Hope Karen Schaeffer has recovered from her recent virus. Congratulations to Dan Russell who played his saxophone in the Parkland School talent show. A very happy birthday to Evert Ternberg who will celebrate on April 22. We have a female bunny looking for a boyfriend in the subdivision. If you can help please call Darin Jaburek. Hope you all had a wonderful Easter. And don't forget to call with a bit of news! "Off-farm sales of corn in 1972 accounted for 25 per cent of total casHTreceipts for Illinois farmers, and the 1973 Illinois com crop the mo6t valuable on record.
