MAY 15 Whispering Oaks Women's Club Meeting -- Book Review - 1 p.m. LCWC Installation Of Officers - Luncheon -- Let's Talk About It WHAT DO YOU WANT FOR YOUR MONEY! Does it make a difference where you save? Don't all banks pay the same amount of interest? Interest rates on savings deposits are regulated by an agency of the Federal Government and generally the rates are basically the same whether your deposit is in Chicago, New York or McHENRY. Savings and Loan Associations are permitted to pay a slightly higher rate than that permitted by commercial banks. The Congress feels that savings and loan associations need a slightly higher rate to effectively compete for deposits. The reason for this is that savings and loan associations are not permitted as wide a range of services as permitted to banks and also because of differences in regulations, banks must remain more liquid. There is one very important difference in where you save and that is INTEREST AND DIVIDENDS TO YOUR COMMUNITY. The money you deposit out of town does nothing for McHenry and the community. The money deposited in the McHenry State Bank stays in the community and is loaned here, thus providing jobs to McHenry people. For 68 years, the philosophy of the McHenry State Bank has always been service to the community. This was pointed out ever so clearly just last week when the McHenry Plaindealer, Waukegan News Sun and other newspapers reporting on the high school District No. 156 meeting wrote, "Although nine financial institutions had been requested to bid on tax anticipation warrants, (money needed to keep the school in operation until the tax money is collected) only the McHenry State Bank responded". The bank sold the tax warrants to the school at well below the maximum rate allowed and also well below the rate available on other types of investments. The bank's board of directors feel that the extra dividends and interest will be made up in BENEFIT TO THE COMMUNITY. Very frankly, money is tight and it is difficult to accumulate deposits in sufficient amount to take care of all the\worthy loan applicants. You can help by depositing here and earning that extra interest • interest in our community. » McHENRY STATE BANK 3510 W.
