West Shore Beach Connie Schmidt 385-7841 Education Foundation_ Progress Encouraging Legal Notice STATE OF ILLINOIS COUNTY OF McHENRY ) )SS ) Spring Clean-Up Needs Support Of Residents The McCullom Lake Conservation Club will start the month of May by cleaning the feeder streams going into the lake from West Shore Beach. Saturday, May 4, at 10 a.m. residents are asked to meet on our beach with rakes and shovels. . Any service organizations such as Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, etc., are welcomed as participants. Our own subdivision clean-up will be announced at a later date since we are seeking the help of an Air Force division. This clean-up will also need the support and cooperation of our residents. Let's begin now by preparing yards and picking up debris on your own property. No garbage will be taken by the clean-up crew as this is why we pay for disposal. All easements must be maintained by property owners too. Please look over your yard and prepare for the upcoming clean-up. ASSOCIATION REPORT The second Saturday of each month the West Shore Beach Property Owners meet to discuss the business of our subdivision. Bids are being taken for repair of the roads that have suffered great damage from this past winter. The board purchased a county book from Woodstock entitled "Health and Welfare Ordinances." Concerns about health measures and actions were also discussed. A new neighbor, Jim Grothman, was welcomed at the meeting. Mrs. Radlein distributed materials from her and Mrs. Andersen's attendance at the Aurora blood bank meeting. Everyone was told the blood bank has been in operation for 30 years and wants all people throughout the county to participate. Anyone who wants to donate will be assured that blood will be available at any time. Every other Tuesday starting April 2 after 4 p.m. appointments are taken by calling 385-1050 ext. 212 or 266. Donors can also go to Memorial Hospital in Woodstock every other Wednesday starting April 3. Our state is the only one having this program. Residents are urged to take advantage of this worthwhile offer. Contact Mrs. Radlein for further information. Our next meeting will be May 11; and plans for the spring clean-up will be the main topic. CONSERVATION CONCERNS A meeting at the Spojnia barn last Thursday evening attracted seventeen area residents. The 180th Preventive Medicine Division from Northbrook took a survey of our lake water on April 20 and 21 to take samples of the protazoa that causes swimmer's itch. Swimmer's itch was again discussed at length and it was pointed out that there are many different species affecting the water at different temperatures. More members, are needed to support the* club that serves hundreds around , the lake. Remember meetings are the third Thursday of every month. In accepting the report, Chairman Donald Doherty remarked, "We are pleased to note that the fund is still growing and that the people are following the ceremony in the home of the groom's parents, Dr. and Mrs. John Steben Kelly, Sr. The bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph McHale were very pleased to gain such a fine son-in-law. James Schwarz, chairman of the Foundation Development council, reported that the council's six committees are formed: Pledge Conservation; Legal; Publicity; Business, Industry, and Financial; Major Gifts; and Recruitment. "We have been somewhat slow," Schwarz stated, "in forming the committees and appointing the chairmen. The reason is that the foundation is a long range project, and we wanted to be careful to get the right people in the right jobs. A firm basis has to be established for the continuing work of the foundation." The board heard proposals from the Investment committee for future investments. In connection with these, Father Edmund Petit presented a "Statement of Ethical Guidelines for Investments." Father Petit stated, "Besides being financially sound and productive, our investments must be consonant with the Christian philosophy espoused by the church.
