PAGE 9 - PLAINDEALER-FRIDAY, APRIL 26, 1974 Lakeland Park AAnfe Moore 385-6448 Army Reserve Troops Make Test For Parasites Last weekend members of the 180th Preventive Medicine Detachment of the Army Reserves were here in McHenry. Their assignment was to collect samples from various areas in McCullom Lake to detect the parasite believed to cause "swimmers itch;" At the meeting of the McCullom Lake Conservation Club last Thursday evening, Lieutenant James Brice, Executive Officer and survey team leader of the unit, spoke about, and showed a slide of the parasite. At this point it is believed that the parasite, by burrowing into swimmer's bodies, causes the swimmer's antibodies to react and this results in "swimmer's itch". It i$ hoped that the Reserve Unit members will be able to find a solution to this problem that has bothered residents for the past few years. In addition to Lt. Brice, the other officers who are responsible for conducting the samplings and the tests are: Captain Dennis Kurowski, company commander; Lieutenant John Gacek, adjutant and survey team leader; Lieutenant William Fitzgerald, survey team leader; and Lieutenant James Shields, survey team leader. So, when next you see Army troops driving through the subdivision you will know why they are here and just how important their mission is to all of us. 4 CONSERVATION CLUB NEWS Another matter discussed at the Conservation Club meeting last week was the clean-up planned for Saturday, May 4. The inlets to the lake are to be "walked" by those of you who will volunteer to help the members of the club. Farther information may be obtained by phoning the club president, Jerry Raycraft (385-7851). WEDDING BELLS! Faith Presbyterian church was the setting chosen by Spencer Maggs and Peggy Kasper to repeat their wedding vows. The 11 a.m. service on rl 4 united the happy couple marriage while their attendants, Homer and Melinda Bassett, looked on in complete happiness. It was an exciting day for the Bassett family because Mr. Maggs is Melinda's father and little Amy and Lisa's grandfather! Peggy's children, Peter, 17, and thirteen-year-old Pamela were also at the service and enjoyed sharing their mother's special day, and were as excited as Amy and Lisa! Following the religious ceremony, a small luncheon party was held for the newlyweds at McHenry Country Club. The new Mr. and Mrs. Spencer Maggs enjoyed a short honeymoon trip to Starved Rock State Park and are n*w residing in McHenry. Our congratulations are extended to you both! BROWNIES SEE BOZO! Last Monday was a very special day for the Brownies of Troop 64. The young ladies and their leaders, Judy Irwin, Barb Williams and Mary Ann Schadt, packed their lunches and boarded a bus bound for Chicago, where they visited Bozo's Circus. MONDAY GUESTS | Beverly Walinski prepared another delicious dinner Monday night for her husband Dick, daughter Linda and guests Sue Volz and her children Debbie and Denny. Of course Bev didn't start preparing the dinner until after she watched Bozo's Circus as her daughter, Linda, was one of the lucky young ladies with the Brownie troop! Chicken was served for the main dish but everyone especially enjoyed Bev's "Cloud Top Peach Pie." They all had a pleasant visit and enjoyed their change-of- pace Monday evening. WEEKEND COMPANY Ron and Anny Arthurs were entertaining guests at their home again last weekend. They were visited by their good friends and former neighbors from Chicago, Paul and Wendy Heidkamp. Jay, Eric and even little Doug enjoyed playing with Pauly and Maria and the parents enjoyed their three days together! A SPECIAL BIRTHDAY! Robin Irwin won't soon forget her seventh birthday, which was April 7. She enjoyed two days of special celebration planned by her mom, Judy. Saturday, April 6, started Robin's celebrations with a birthday party at her home. Jill Schaefer (who was quite a helper), Amy Bassett, Michelle Patterson, Jana Williams, Linda Walinski, Lisa Varvik, Cindy Kinsala, Sandy Smith, Maureen Otto, Becky Bradley, J-J Blum, Amy Tonyan, Jennifer Wirtz, Kim Schiera, and Donna Zutatut were the children who enjoyed cake and ice cream at Robin's home. Robin received many lovely presents and her favorites included the Giant "Winnie-the Pooh" bear from her Aunt Sue Meineke and the suitcase her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Meineke, gave her for her upcoming trip to Vermont with Aunt Sue. When all the gifts were finally opened, they all headed for Montini Primary Center where they were entertained by "The Magistics" from Chicago. Approximately 150 children were at the performance of the magic show and from what I heard the show was great and enjoyed by the children, and the adults! On Sunday, Mrs. Irwin, Robin, her Aunt Sue Meineke and Jill Schaefer went to see the American Ballet Theater's performance of "Swan Lake" at the Civic Opera House in Chicago.
