He worked particularly well in curriculum development and provided a sound instructional program. "As superintendent, he also actively participated within the Spring Grove community in professional educational endeavors in county and state. Dr. Tavano's resignation at the end of the 1973-74 school year represented an amicable termination which should not reflect upon any future employment as a school administrator". The controversy had its start publicly at a March 30 special meeting called by the board. At this time they served a notice of dismissal upon Dr. Tavano to become effective June "3. However, he was suspended as of that date. The superintendent denied all charges made against him. The next move came in another special meeting held Monday, April 29, attended by the board, the superintendent and their lawyers. A six and one-half-hour executive was held while about sixty persons waited for a decision. None was forthcoming and another meeting was set for last Thursday night. HIGH RATING BY JOHNSBURG JOURNAL (Continued from page 1) student editor was Carolyn Smith. Next year Johnsburg will be among those listed in Scholastic Editor, a national journalism publication as a winner in the NSPA contest. Eighth grade students at Johnsburg school not only publish the Johnsburg Journal several times during the year, but also assist in publishing "Info 12", a school newsletter that is sent to every taxpayer in the Johnsburg school district four times a year. The students also write and produce a daily closed circuit TV morning report that is watched by every Junior high school student each morning on closed circuit TV. Eighth grade students are eligible for the one-half year journalism class who exhibit high reading scores and-or exhibit a great interest in journalism. i) Spring Airconditioning Check PRESSURE CHECK SYSTEM CLEAN CONDENSER FINS - ADJUST BELT TENSION • INSPECT SYSTEM FOR LEAKS PARTIAL CHARGE SYSTEM (IF NEEDED) 0Q PARTS AND $10 FREON EXTRA LMK Transmission Tune-Up CHECK TRANSMISSION, OIL COOLER AND OIL LINES FOR EXTERNAL LEAKS OIL PAN • RENEW FILTER • TORQUE VALVE BODY • ADJUST BANDS (IF NEEDED) • CLEAN PAN AND INSTALL NEW GASKET • CHECK MODULATOR AND HOSE • INSTALL NEW OIL • ROAD TEST *12 oo plus Oil plus FILTER Hi > V f LMK SAVE 4 PLEASURIZER SHOCKS ST095 LABOR INCLUDED AIR TYPE EXTRA -- ALL GENERAL MOTORS CARS -- CADILLAC-PONTIAC Rte. 31 & 120 McHeniy, Illinois Phone 385-6000 MUSIN" N' MEANDERIN" (Continued from page 1) between news and advertising, which many profit-making concerns fail to recognize when they seek advertising through the channels of the news columns. Another important item is postage. It costs nine times more in additional postage to send a newspaper outside McHenry county than it does to mail it locally. For this reason, and to cover the cost of remaking address plates, a $1 service charge is now in effect on all subscriptions which are changed to out-of-county areas for temporary periods of time. The congratulations of many fans are extended to the McHenry chapter of the Sweet Adelines, which is becoming chartered Wednesday evening. These ladies have experienced the struggles of all new groups, and the fact that they have surmounted the many obstacles to the point of receiving a charter is noteworthy. Many audiences have enjoyed their programs in the past two years. We have a feeling there will be many more sweet sounds emanating from these talented gals in the years ahead We looked up from our typewriter recently to find Rod Melsek smiling down on us. Rod was just 18 when he came to work at the Plaindealer during summer vacation. He became someone very special to everyone in the office in the short span of three months before college beckoned to him. Ten years have passed, but infrequent visits to McHenry always include a stop at the office where he received his first business experience. Now in police training in Atlanta, Ga., he will soon become a part of the administration force. This welcome .... note accompanied a renewal of the Plaindealer for Norman and Gail Williams, formerly of Wonder Lake. "Just a short note to tell you how much we \ook forward to the Plaindealer coming each week". Mrs. Williams is a former correspondent from Wonder Lake. Her husband has just taken the resident deputy position for the Tokeland- Grayland area with the Pacific County Sheriff's office at South Bend, Wash., after two years as chief of police in Ilwaco, Wash.
