The third round of the 2 men aggregate tournament will be played at the club on Sunday, May 12. Herman (The Bear) Kreutzer was in for a little conversation that turned quickly into baseball. Herman has one distinction. He saw his Cubs win a game this year. How many people can make that claim?. What's more, our old neighbor has an idea. Since he saw an umpire really blow a call, Herman wants them to use the TV instant replays. He might have something there. Coach Chuck Cuda was telling about one of his McHenry High golfers, Jim Burke, shooting a 37--only to have his team end up in a tie match. Win, lose or tie--that's nice going, Jim. Have had several requests to run "Thank You" ads as news items lately. They usually want to thank sponsors. Very nice thought, but a NO-No in the news department. According to the rules, we have to run sports news on this page. Another thing we have to scratch out when editing stories js cost of admission to various events. Entry fees is another problem. We don't sell ads, but can refer you to a couple of good men. Leo Blake stuck his head in i i laugi reminded that our Sox had lost a 5-4 ball game to the Detroit Tigers. Just watched Wilbur Wood pitch a 2-hitter in eleven innings to beat those same Tigers 1-0. Don't know if Leo will be in tomorrow or not. An early morning drive to the Court House this Wednesday morning convinced us that 111. Rt. 120 should be improved without delay. We remember when the State of Illinois constructed a paved road that extended about a half mile out of Woodstock and people going to the County Fair would go out of their way just for the thrill of driving the old Model "T" over the new fangled roadway. Met a personable young man and mentioned that it is a lousy morning. "It's a good morning", he replied, "My heart is still beating." Let that be a lesson to us. Tom Bolger questions our report that Lou Gehrig came to bat 23 times in his career with the bases loaded and each time hit a grand slammer. So--we read the book again. That's what it says. That fellow may know his banking, but-- DIVOT DOLLS cHeniy Girls Race Past Round Lake, Lose To Lake Forest By Dee Overton On May 7, 12 ABC teams played a Best Ball 9 hole event. Winning on the front 9 with an excellent round of 32, 5 under par was the team of Joan Buss, A, Mary Mahoney, B, and Mitzi Kenton, C. On the longer back 9 another fine round of 37, 3 under par was played by the team of Floss O'Connell, A, Madeline Holmes, B, and Dorothy Westergaard, C. This ABC event will continue on May 14 with the same teams, hopefully for an 18 hole play. Two more gals have joined our president Carol Cooney on the 'Birdie tree'. Judy Smithson with a 4 on the fifteenth hole and Anna Johnson with a 3 on the fourteenth. Nice golf, gals. Remember to sign up next week for the Tennessee Dog Fight on May 21, a real fun event. NOTE: A reminder for the season, with our beautiful golf course and lush greens - PLEASE GALS, keep the golf carts away from our greens and tees. The cheapest and quickest way to learn is to observe the errors of others.
