The locals won the meet by 1 point over Woodstock 77 to 76 and Crystal Lake placed 3rd., Marian 4th, Harvard 5th, Richmond 6th, Marengo 7th and Cary Grove 8th. The meet held in a downpour of rain, did nothing to dampen the spirits of the young Warriors. Denny Useman won both the 100 and 220 yd. dashes for McHenry. With all events recorded except the pole vault, the Warriors found themselves in the lead 70 to 69. With Weber taking a 5th in the vault, and with 2 Woodstock vaulters still in contention along with Scott Freund of McHenry, it was a do or die situation for young Freund. To win the meet Scott had to win the event. The young lad did not let his coaches or teammates down. Showing a lot of the old moxie, Scott cleared the bar at 12'6", not only winning the event but assuring the Warriors of the first place trophy. It was truly a great team effort, and again congratulations are in order to the young Warriors for a job well done. MCHENRY RESULTS 120 HH Tony Bentz 1st, Steve Koerber 2nd. 220 yd. DIVOT DOLLS McHenry Country Club The weather certanly was not conducive to good golf in the third round of the 2-man aggregate tournament played at the club on Sunday, May 12, but all matches were completed and the results in Flight 1 showed that the team of Jim Packee and Ed Oja defeated Earl Brown and Butch Meyer while Dick Turner and Ed Ray beat Cy Carlson and Paul Hopper. Should be a close match in the finals between these two fine teams. In Flight 2 the team of Gary Adams and Larry Piklor beat Jack Smithson and Ed Houlihan, and Tony Victor and WARRIOR GOLFERS capture second place in the District. Only Waukegan came out ahead of McHenry in the 14 team tourney, and only 8 points was the difference. The team's effort for this second place spot merits them a berth in the Sectional, which is being held in Deerfield today. The members and their scores are 1-r kneeling Lowell Kively (82), Robert Buenzli (84) and Bob Buss (75). Standing are Jim Burke (96), Charles Jesky (87), Ken Ludwig (76) and Marty Zeller (91). (STAFF PHOTO-WAYNE GAYLORD) Tom Burke defeated the team of Gary Fields and Dick Hester on the 16th green. The final match in Flight 2 also is a toss up and should go down to the wire. Members are urged to sign up for the Memorial Day Tennessee Dog Fight Tournament which will be held on Sunday, May 26th and will be a one day event. Also sign up for the next tournament - the Directors' Torunament which will start on Sunday, June. 2 By Dee Overton Through gusty winds and threatening skies, our hearty midwestern stock of golf gals trudged on to complete 18 holes and play some fine golf too. The winners are Nell Fidler A, Ethel Conway B, and Faye Stewart C with a 72, 5 un der par. In second place, the team of Judy Smithson A, Char Zwissler B and Marion Donnelly C at 74, 3 under par. Hmm, seems to me the names of Fidler and Smithson keep showing up in these 'Best Ball' events. Next week, May 21, we will play a Tennessee Dog Fight, a real fun day, and girls the temperature will be in the upper 70's, light snow fall, moderate to 40 miles per hour winds, mild participation, heavy palpitation.
