The meeting will begin at 8 p.m. Banquet June 27 Recognize 20th Year Of County Dairy Promotion Though the 1974 Dairy banquet is more than a month away, exciting developments in recent days forecast a memorable occasion Thursday night, June 27. On that night the McHenry County Dairy Promotion council will hold its dinner signifying twenty full years of dairy product promotion under the banner of the group-a group which has as its symbol a golden-haired girl with a gallon of milk. That symbol indicates the times in 1954 when the Dairy Promotion council was launched by Virgil Smith, Don Peasleyand Walter Schuett, Sr. This year all past Dairy Princesses have been invited to participate as special guests and the many dozen people who have worked for many years to be a part of the Dairy promotion effort are given a cordial invitation to join in this memorable occasion. Letters from former Dairy Princesses have already come in to Don Peasley, coordinator for this 1974 reunion and a participant in dairy promotional publicity and promotion each of the twenty years. Letters have come from Betty Boppart (1965) who is in Guam; from Mary Linn Hogan Sonnemaker, who is with her husband iir England; Rosalynn Rehorst Coleman (1963); Clara Nor Lutz |1967); Jeanette Seaman Freye (I960); Connie Rudsinski Malick (1964); Lynn Tomlinson (1973); Bonnie Davidson Maguire (1966); Carol Hanson Pepke (1957); Dorothy Olbrich Kleckner (1959); and Marilyn Lindvall Stork (1954). Changes in milk supply over the twenty years reflect a contrast, but the problem confronting dairy farmers today are familiar: High costs for what the farmer must buy in relation to what he receives for his milk. Fewer dairy farmers by many hundreds is a result. Christian Mothers Hold Fashion Revue, Dinner Members of the Christian Mothers society and their guests, about seventy women, enjoyed a pot-luck dinner at St. Peter's hall Wednesday night. The highlight of the evening was a fashion show in a comedy theme presented by members and some of their daughters. Sonia Miller narrated, and her entrance brought much laughter as she was dressed in a "roaring twenties" theme. This was the beginning of an hilarious one hour as the show progressed. Models were dressed in costumes of the flapper era, back when beach attire, a picture hat was just that, ( a picture frame on the model's head), balloon sleeves were balloons tied to shoulders; matching suit had book matches tied to shorts; a 14- carat diamond studded belt was merely 14 raw carrots tied on a belt. Not to be outdone by planet earth there was also a model from outer space, "fashions from Mars dressed in a full, floor length gold print gown and a hat covered in gold tinsel with a red flickering light bulb on top. The ending was a model in night wear complete with face covered with cold cream and rollers in her hair. At the exit of this model the flap was dropped on which was printed the lettering"Good Night". Hie models filed out again for the finale when Meg Miller appeared dressed as a man and started a coquettish routine with the models. She chose the model from Mars, which was Eva Freund. They went through a fun type flirtatious routine and the show ended with much applause. Mrs. Laura Kutish, Mrs. Agnes May and Mrs. Eva Freund were on the committee and attended the Nairn meeting of St. Margaret chapter held at St. Mary's hall, McHenry Friday night. A bus trip to Holy Hill was planned. There was a social evening at cards. Dessert and coffee were served. Hobby-Antique Show In Plans Of S.C. Club c MADELYN CARLSON NURSE - On Sunday, May 19, seventy-five qursing students from Elgin Community college received their pins. Among them was Mrs. Madelyn Carlson of McHenry. She will graduate at the college Thursday night. Mrs. Carlson is the mother of LeRoy and Harold (Hal) Hartwig of McHenry and the grandmother of Cynthia Lee Hartwig of Mount Prospect. When President Kenneth Bowsher called the McHenry Senior Citizens club meeting to order Monday evening, May 13, there were 1% members in attendance. Mrs. Alice Chermak, program chairlady, reported that there has been a change, and the program for the meeting May 27 will be a card party for members, with prizes for the winners at each table. The program for the June 10 meeting will be a Book Review "I'll Tell Them I Remember You", by Mrs. Burton Pearsall. The Hobby and Antique show will be June 24. Frank Giel, Bowling chairman, advised that there is room for more bowlers on the summer series. Members were reminded of the club picnic Saturday, July 13, at Veterans Acres. John Doerr, Tour chairman, told members about the centennial celebration at Buffalo Grove June 10, 11 and 12 featuring the German show brass band with hilarious skits and instrumental numbers, German food, and other interesting activities. Newcomers In Business Meet, Social Hour The May meeting of the Town and Country Newcomers club was held Tuesday, May 14, when the girls and their husbands had a business meeting and social hour. A newcomer to the McHenry Shores area, Alice Lawson, formerly from Evanston, joined the meeting. Mentioned in the business meeting was the great success of the rummage sale held May 10 and 11. The money earned will be used for the couple's Christmas party. Also announced at the meeting was the ladies' luncheon, which will be held for members and their guests June 11 in Long Grove. Girls interested in joining in the fun are asked to call Mrs. Bruce Manyluk. The June meeting scheduled for June 11 has been changed to June 4 at 8 p.m., to be held at 3304 W. Skyway, Country Club Estates. Ladies interested in coming to the meetings to socialize with others in the community are asked to contact Mrs. Steve Bokemeier. All this and more will be reminisced at the dairy banquet, scheduled on June 27 at the Woodstock Moose lodge in a shift of date and site by the McHenry County Dairy Promotional council in late April when the move seemed prudent. The 1974 Dairy Princess will be crowned at the banquet, and so far three candidates have been entered, reports Larry Harris, executive secretary of the McHenry County Farm Bureau. They are: Linda Rich, 17, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Rich, Harvard; Donna Swanson, 18, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alan Swanson, Woodstock, sponsored by Woodstock Progressives; and Ruth Stohlquist, 18, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Maynard Stohlquist, Marengo. Other entries are due in the next few days. The candidates make their first appearance June 1 at Harvard Milk day. Tickets for the Dairy banquet are available at the Farm Bureau and from John Pfingsten, chairman, and other Dairy Promotion council members. A prudent idea this year is to get tickets early because the twentieth year promises to attract a full house. McHenry Couple Repeat Nuptial Vows In Elgin When Denise Gertrude Broemm became the bride of Duane Eugene Winn on Saturday, May 18, she wore a rhinestone heart necklace worn by her own mother on her wedding day twenty-seven years ago. The young couple repeated their nuptial vows before the Rev. Walter Diem in Elgin during 3:30 afternoon services. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Broemm of 4321 W. Clearview avenue, McHenry, and the bridegroom, who lives at 4413 W. Prairie avenue, McHenry, is the son ef Mr. and Mrs. James Winn of Route 2, Mondovi, Wis. The pretty bride wore a traditional white lace wedding gown fashioned with a fitted waist, sabrina neckline and a tiered skirt. Encrusted pearls and sequins were scattered throughout the gown. She carried a bridal bouquet of daisies with one white rose in the center. Bridal attendants were Mary Winn of Mondovi, Wis., and Doreen Graczyk of Elgin. They were attired in blue and pink floral chiffon over ivory taffeta gowns designed with ruffled hems. Each wore a bone colored hat trimmed with pale purple ribbon. They carried spring bouquets of purple, yellow and pink daisies. Dale Coats of Round Lake served as best man and Wyatt Lowery of Eau Claire, Wis., was groomsman. For her daughter's wedding, Mrs. Broemm wore a formal length peach col wed gown with matching jacket and a cymbidium orchid corsage. The groom's mother chose a formal length white and silver gown with a similar corsage. Following the ceremony, a reception for ninety friends and relatives was held at the Iron Skillet in Algonquin. Upon their return from a wedding trip to a Dude ranch in Colorado Springs, Colo., the newlyweds will make their home at 4413 W. Prairie avenue,. McHenry. The bride received her high school education in McHenry and is now employed by Unde- writer's Laboratories as a group leader in the File department. The groom works in the same facility in the Plant department. Mother Of Three Receives Degree In Lake County Mrs. Don (Grace) Bentz received her associate degree of Applied Science in Nursing from Lake County college last Friday night. The pinning ceremony took place at 6 o'clock, followed by graduation at West, campus high school, Waukegan. Club Learns Of City Government At Meeting The Friendship club of the First United Methodist church met earlier this month for their monthly pot luck dinner and meeting. President Elmer Stange mentioned the fact that it was the 107th meeting of the club, and complimented the members on their continued interest and attendance. Daisy and Harold Wildhagen chose for their program, and had as guests, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Pepping. Alderman Pepping gave a very informative talk on our city government, and explained the anticipated growth of this area, and the aims of the city to meet that growth. The question and answer period was most interesting, and Alderman Pepping did a fine job in answering the many, many questions asked. For the meditations, Esther Sims shared things she learned during her recent trip to Texas and Mexico regarding the wonderful work going on at the Mexican missions in the field of Christian education and help. She told of their wonderful philosophy of faith and love. The projector fund is growing, and the special extra collection added considerably to the total. The group accepted Helen Crouch's offer to be coordinator of the Meat committtee. It was decided to have a picnic, and the tentative plans are for Sunday, Aug. 18 at the city park.. The club will be in recess until Sept. 14. The secretary will get the new roster and schedules to the members sometime in August.
