With the rains a falling, and at times the course unplayable the 4 man Barrington team shot an amazing score of 143. A rain delay of 2 hours, and then another downpour left the $purse unplayable, mutual consent by the coaches teverted the scores to the first {fine holes played. 'jlGary Ha I berg Barrington's excellent sophomore golfer, took the honors with a one under par 34. This young lad only 16 years old failed to qualify for the National Open on Monday by 2 strokes. By the way he shot a 72-73 for a 145 over the White Pines course in Wheeling. Coach Chuck Cuda's McHenry golfers finished in 5 th place with a 158 total. So close was the meet that the number 3,4,5 teams were 1 stroke apart. Lake Forest finished in the runnel^ up position with a total of 149. McHenry scores were as follows: Kenne Ludwig 37, Bob Buenzli 39, Bob Buss 41, and Jim Burke41. This has to be the toughest conference meet in the state, including the prestigious Suburban Conference Meet. The Warriors a pre meet favorite with Libertyville just didn't have it on Tuesday at Lake Forest. The Wildcats from Libertyville finishing a banner season in athletic had too many guns for the rest of the conference, and won scoring 120 points to second place Crystal Lake's 65. Because of weather conditions and darkness all results are not in at this time, but will be in next week's edition. However some of the Warriors who did score points are as follows. , / Ev Klapperich 2nd id both the 100 and 220 yd. dashes. John Mclnenery placed 4th in the mile and 3rd in the 2 mile. John Barnings took a 5th in the 2 mile run. The 880 relay tied for 5th spot, and Rick Freund took 3rd and Geo Hansen a 4th in the pole vault. There were 250 landowners and snowmobilers in attendance to enjoy a delicious family style Beef Dinner, and dancing furnished by a terrific band. A good time was had by all. Distinguished guests for the evening were Sheriff and Mrs. Art Tyrrell, Republican State Representative and Mrs. Bruce Waddell, and Democratic State Representative anci Mrs. Tom Hanahan. They all complimented the landowners and the snowmobilers for working together to help make snowmobiling a safe family winter sport. Their words were very encouraging to all who have worked so hard for snowmobiling and all snowmobilers are grateful for what these people have helped accomplish. We must remember the chairman from each Snowmobile Club that was responsible for this successful event. Chairmen were Leon Schmitt from the Sno-bug club, Bill Pierce from Polar Pairs and Ed Lewis from Harmony club. Tom McAuliffe was the MC for the evening. Thanks fellas (and gals too, cause we know you had to help the fellas out). * * * * . For fanners, spring is the time for writ, not fever. See separate story that tells you all about it. Rains in the month of May developed many small lakes in the area. Plenty of waterfront lots now. Sid and Duke Norton of McHenry will be racing Sportsman Cars at Wilmot this coming weekend. Another McHenry driver, Danny Brown, blew an engine last week. Schools will soon be out and people will wonder where that year went. Same thing every year. We note that NFL football players have cooked up 90 demands. Nowadays the word request has been relegated and the word demand substituted. Wouldn't it be wonderful if a happy medium could be readied in all disputes and problems in life. Somebody (unsigned) mailed us clippings from some other newspaper about Marian Central sports. Sorry. We can't copy. Anyhow, we have '* an agreement to print Marian Central sports news that is sent from the school - and we do. Gladly. There is one big mixup about when to celebrate Memorial Day. The McClory Bill says May 27th is the day. The Illinois legislators say it is to be celebrated May 30. That's our d*y. Nobody has fooled around with Christmas. Not yet. Or St. Patrick's Day. MCC Names May 24 "Robert Matte Day" The students, faculty and administration of McHenry County College will honor Robert Matte on May 24. Matte, who has been the college's basketball coach for the past 6 years, resigned at the end of the last season. He will remain at the college as instructor of mathematics. According to Kenneth "Gus" Williams, the Inter- organizational Council and the Student Activities Board at the college have declared May 24 "Robert Matte Day,'\ "This was done to honor Bob Matte for his contributions to the coaching field," said Williams. Matte will be honored at the Student Award Dinner, along with many of his students who are being honored for their academic achievements, sports participation, and activity in student clubs. The dinner will be held at the Branded Steak House at 6:30 p.m. on May 24. DIVOT DOLLS By Dee Overton 'Sunshine On My Shoulder Makes Me Happy' - sang 9 teams of foursomes teeing off May 21 playing a Tennessee Dog Fight, but the tune soon changed to 'Randrops Keep Falling'. Amid bolts of lightning and frequent thunder showers, 1 team retiring (expletive) 8 sloshed oi\ to finish 18 holes. The winning team of Alvina Yopp, Millie Leisten, Ella Roseberry and Dorothy Westergaard with an 81, 4 over par; (what do you expect from ducks?) reported a birdie on 14, sunk an approach for a par on 15, and had only 20 putts ; that's the secret to success Letty. _ _ In second place with 86, are Carol Cooney, Liz Nolan, Sully Consago, and Dorothy Christensen. Tied for third place at 87 are Nell Fidler, Myrt Johnson, Barb Weber, and Marion Donnelly, also the team of Judy Smithson, Dot Freund, Betty Wayman and Donna Alderman. Nice birdie on No. 4 Judy. For dryer news our bridge scores show Alvina Yopp in the lead after 3 weeks of play at 3,810 points. Maddie Holmes in second at 3,060. Has anyone told these two we are only asking for the first six hands, not all afternoon's scores? 'Beat the Champ' will be canceled to a lata* date due to illness and a death in the family. Qualifying for Match Play will be scheduled for May 28. Our traveling team will start the season " at Tally Ho on Friday, May 31. Frequently our team has won in our Northern Division of the Intersuburban * team Play league.
