Spring Grove Eva Freund 675-2135 Mail Boxes Targets For Improvement The nation's nearly 23 miHion mailboxes are now the target for sprucing up for better appearance and greater security of the mail. The annual observance, which this year has been designated as Mailbox Improvement week in May, by the U.S. Postal Service, began generations ago in small towns and rural areas, and involves special community efforts to repair, repaint and ^generally "spruce up" mailboxes. "Nationwide, some 45 million customers are served by 31 ,§00 rural mail routes and the importance of the program . grows each year as more and more Americans move to rural and suburban areas", P o s t m a s t e r M a r i l y n Heckmann said. "In Spring Grove 905 families are served by two rural mail routes," she added. All postal personnel directly involved in suburban and rural deliveries are being instructed to cooperate with householders in making certain, their mailboxes comply with regulations on safety and accessibility. BOARD MEETING OFLCWC The Board of Directors of Lotus Country Women's Club met in the town hall on May 20. President Kay Smith called the meeting to order. Minutes of the last board meeting in 1973 were read by Secretary Eva Freund and approved as read. Plans for the comirig year were formulated. Treasurer Jean Lay will collect dues and send out past due notices. Membership cards will be \,iven each paid up member. A discussion was held on fund raising events. A card party and luncheon was suggested for September. The comedy fashion show would be an added attraction at this party. A pot- luck and meeting will be held in the town hall on June 12 at noon to discuss plans. All members are urged to attend. Information on constitution and by-laws and budget will be presented. President Smith suggested having board meetings one hour before regular meetings, this was in agreement with_ the board. There being no further business, meeting was adjourned. STRAWBERRY FESTIVAL IN JUNE At the regular meeting of the Pioneer Club on May 21; plans were under way for their annual strawberry festival which will be held on Saturday, June 29, with rain date - June 30. A bus trip to Burger King plant, Flower Land, Hawthorn Plaza and fish fry in Twin Lakes is set up for June 7, bus leaves at 8 a.m. Cake and coffee were served and cards were played. ATTEND DISTRICT MEETING Mrs. Frances Heinemann, Mrs. Tip Klein, Mrs. Kay Smith, Mrs. Eva Freund and Mrs. Arleen Kruger represented the Lotus Country Women's Club at a special meeting of District 4 which consolidates McHenry C6unty, Winnebago County and Boone County. The meeting was held in Garden Prairie. A temporary slate of officers was formed until by-laws could be set up. Mrs. Frances Heinemann was appointed as a member of the constitution and by-laws committee and Mrs./Tip'Klein is a member of the budget committee of District 4. Dates of conventions for the coming year were given. Algonquin Women's Club will host the September meeting. Coffee and rolls were served at 9:30 a.m. and a luncheon was served at noon. Business Manager Joins Johnsburg District 12 ) Johnsburg Public School District 12, 2117 Church street, McHenry, recently employed Kenneth Falkinham as business manager for the district. In his new role, Mr. Falkinham will be in charge of all the non-teaching personnel - - approximately thirty-five employees. Other tasks will be to supervise purchasing, develop budget and long-range financial planning, administer a program for purchasing supplies and equipment, work concerning facility expansion, establish and supervise a program for reporting accounting and financial affairs of the district, assist somewhat with negotiations and public relations, and in general administer the business affairs of Johnsburg school district in such a way as to provide all best possible education services with the financial resources available. Johnsburg school considered over fifty applicants for the position. Approximately twenty candidates were actively interviewed for the job, and Mr. Falkinham was chosen from the final three candidates after the board and administration considered the background and qualifications of the candidates interviewed for the oosition. DOUGLAS WERDEN AIDS ASC - Mrs. Douglas Werden, Mattoon, has been appointed the associated director of early detection for the American Cancer Society, Illinois division, Tom Baab, executive vice president, has announced.
