Used originally in April of 1972 by College of Lake County, the gold-painted shovel was borrowed by McHenry County college for use in ground breaking ceremonies March 10,1974, and returned to CLC shortly afterward. When a request came from Chester Nelson of the Historical society for the shovel to be on permanent display at the Union museum, Dr. James R. Davis, president of MCC, sent a letter explaining that the shovels had been borrowed. He suggested as an alternative that the museum receive one side of the sign that has beeiji at the site of the new campus for the last two years. The sign reads: "Future Home of McHenry County College." When the MCC board became aware of the situation, they requested that the administration ask College of Lake County officials if one of the shovels could be returned. Dr. Richard Erzen, president of CLC, assured MCC that they wouldn't miss one shovel and transported it to the college. "I guess that you would call this 'true cooperation' between community colleges. This will allow us to give not only the shovel Haut also the sign for the m u s e u m ' s p e r m a n e n t display," said Davis. w REMFORCEOtbSO Crescent Tennis Balls--Tin of 3 Reg. 2.99.
