Mrs. Herman Schaefer and her sister, Mrs. George ,Kuntsman and children narrowly escaped serious injuries in an accident on the Crystal Lake road recently. In turning a corner their car upset turned over twice and they were pinned beneath the machine. Harry J. Townsend has moved his Chevrolet Sales and Service garage from the George A. Stilling building to the intersection of Route U.S. 12 and Route 20. Mrs./ Simon Sfoffel and daughter, Clara/ attended the funeral of Henry Bauman at Oak Pdrk Nick Miller, CWES worker, will sponsor a summer program of sports for the young people of this community who are dnemployed and commenced work on Monday of this week with about thirty-five boys on hand for a game of baseball. Miss Dorothy Fisher, who has been attending the Northern Illinois State Teachers college at DeKalb has completed her two year course in teaching and with others will graduate June 8. Miss Fisher is one of sixty-eight who has obtained a school for next year. She will teach in the Harrison District. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Unti entertained relatives and friends at a family party at their home on Green street honoring their daughter, Bernice. TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of June 9, 1949) The Red Cross swimming program of the McHenry County chapter of the American Red Cross has completed its plans for the free swimming program at McHenry for boys and girls and their mothers and fathers as well. Frank Muzzy of Ringwood, a 1949 graduate of McHenry Community high school, died of injuries suffered earlier in the day in a motorcycle accident. Critically injured in the same accident was Patrick Krohn also a high school senior and designated to lead the baccalaureate march. Gus Freund of the McHenry equipment company is attending a two weeks sales and management course conducted by the International Harvester Co. for its dealer organization. Thompson of Wonder Lake was appointed a member of the charters committee of the general grand chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star by Mrs. Eva Holland Hamilton of Chicago, most worthy grand matron. Military rites were held at the Crystal Lake funeral home for Sgt. Paul E. Colby, whose body was brought back from Belgium. Sgt. Colby was killed Feb. 3, 1945 in action in a . bombing over Germany. It was to have been his last mission before returning home. Miss Joan Reihansperger was honored at a luncheon and miscellaneous bridal shower at the home of Mrs. Bradley M. Nelson in Winnetka. TEN YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of June 11, 1964) The kitchen in an unoccupied home at Fair Oaks subdivision, on the Fox River was dai by fire. The residence is i by Fred Kimball who resides at the intersection of John street and Allen avenue. The Chamber of Commerce dance will be held June 13 at the McHenry Country club. Special entertainment will be furnished by the newly formed Georgetown Trio, three high school boys who do folk singing. They are Tom Carlson, Jim DeVos and Sandy Winters. Friends and relatives gathered at the McHenry Country club Sunday afternoon to extend congratulations to one of the city's most respected couples, Mr. and Mrs. George H. Johnson. Carol Sompel, Johnsburg employee in the bookkeeping department at the McHenry State Bank, recently placed first in the class in the course "Principle of Bank Operations". The course was held at Libertyville and was sponsored by the American Institute of Banking. New owner of the business on Riverside Drive is D. Davis who moved here recently to take over operation of Mr. D's Lounge, formerly known as Art and Lee's Tavern. Val Sellinger of McHenry will leave from Miami, Fla., June 16, for Bogota, Columbia, South America, to spend ten weeks. She will attend Javeriana university for two and one half weeks and the remainder of the time will be enjoyed in social work under the student exchange program. She was a 1963 graduate of Marian Central high school.
