Lakeland Park Anne Moore 385-6448 Annual Pick-Up . Dates Announced For June 17-2(1 As most residents are aware, June is the month during which our annual garbage pick-up is held. What this means to those of you who are unaware, we should be busy separating our junque from our junk. Junque is those items we can probably sell at our next garage sale and junk is those items we can't possibly give away! Those men who help us clean out every nook and cranny of our homes and garages will be passing by our homes sometime between June 17 and June 24. So, be prepared and have that junk piled as neat as you can in front of your home. PROUD PARENTS Skip and Pat Tollifson have enjoyed their role the past few weeks as especially proud parents. Their son, Michael, has proven himself quite an achiever. Mike was chosen to represent Parkland school as a member of the student council at a two day convention held at the University of Illinois in Champaign. The Student Council convention is an annual event and from what his folks said the students really enjoyed the convention this year. They attended classes and were guests at a special dance and had a marvelous time in Southern Illinois. Mike was chosen as a top scholar by the Kiwanis club and was honored with other local students at a dinner held recently at West Campus. Dad and Mom were there to share the evening with Mike and the other special achievers from Parkland, Montini and McHenry Junior high school. His young sister, Randy, is quite proud of her big brother too, and our congratulations are extended to the hard working student and to his happy parents! A SPECIAL DAY Sunday, May 19, was a very special day for Lori Widhalm. Lori received her first Holy Communion during the guitar Mass at St. Mary's church while her proud parents, Ray and Judy, and her young brother, Michael, watched with excitement. Mom and Dad held a party to celebrate at their home and Lori had some very special guests there to share her happiness. Her maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Barwig were here from Holiday, Fla., and her grandmother Mrs. Frances Widhalm was also at her special celebration. Three of Lori's great-aunts and uncles were also guests at her party. They are Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Gonia, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Gorowski and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Maliscewski. Aunts and Uncles, Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Barwig and Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Widhalm were also there to celebrate Lori's special day along with cousins, Susie, Donna and Kenny Barwig and David, Mark and Mary Widhalm. Friends who attended the day's celebration were: Father Joseph Kulak, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Gagnon, Mr-and Mrs. Robert Nichols and Renee, Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Bauer and Jill, Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Creutz with Tom, Chris and Billy. Everyone had a marvelous time and were glad they were guests at Lori's First Holy Communion celebration. BABY BOY CHRISTENED Brian Edward received the Sacrament of Baptism at St. Patrick's church on Sunday May 19. Brian is the infant son of Edward and Barbara Rous who were very proud of their little boy who was one of nine babies christened that Sunday. Dad and Mom held a party following the ceremony and had approximately thirty guests at their home to share the excitement of the day. Bonnie Lundgren is Brian's Godmother and Daniel Baier is his godfather. Proud maternal grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Baier were here for the festivities from Melrose Park as were equally proud paternal grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Robert Rous who drove out from Schiller Park. Everyone enjoyed the delicious buffet dinner served by Ed and Barbara and were pleased to welcome Baby Brian to the happy and excited world of his parents! Our congratulations to you all! FOUR BIRTHDAYCANDLES The long holiday weekend was especially enjoyed by Jennifer Worth as she was able to celebrate her birthday on two days. Jenny turned four- years-old on Monday, May 27. , Sunday she celebrated with her dad and mom, Jerry and Elaine, her sister Stephanie, her grandparents Ralph and Gertrude Worth of Broadview, and her aunt and uncle, Susan and Paul Skultety of Hanover Park. Monday, as soon as Stephanie came home from school, a children's party was held for Jenny. Guests were Patty Treadwell, our sons, Kevin and Brian, and Jennifer and Michael Trampe. The children enjoyed the delicious lunch and especially gobbled up the cupcakes and other party goodies. Jenny's maternal grandparents, Willard and Esther Nelson, joined the Worths for an evening celebration and everyone had a fun day, especially Jenny! Once again, Happy birthday Jenny! May all your birthdays be this happy! CARIBBEAN CRUISE Four sisters are still talking about their tremendous week long vacation that they recently enjoyed. Irene Wilken, Marion Longfield and Gladys Geneser boarded an airplane at O'Hare field and flew to Miami on May 10, where they met their other sister, Elizabeth Smith. The ladies spent a restful night in Miami before boarding the cruise ship the Mardi Gras for an eight day tour that took them to San Juan, St. Thomas and Nassau. One particular highlight of their trip was the Mass they attended on the ship that was said by Father John Feeney, brother of Joseph Feeney, the singer on the Lawrence Welk show. The sisters had a marvelous trip and hope to do it again soon! BABY SHOWER FUN The Graf residence of Glenview was the setting for a baby shower held last Saturday for Jane Wiser. Her sisters-in- law Penny Treadwell and Nancy Mieritz, and Gail Wiser were among the twenty guests who were at the party to wish the "soon-to-be mommy" much happiness. Jane and her husband Rick are anxiously awaiting the arrival of their first baby. Everyone who attended the baby shower enjoyed the delicious buffet dinner and the tasty champagne punch seryed by Jane's aunt at her elegant home, and needless to say the expectant mother received many lovely gifts. ATTENDED CHRISTENING The Gacek family had an especially busy Sunday last week, lhey were guests at the Christening of baby Cindy Linnae Stutz, infant daughter of Len and Jerry who reside in West Chicago. The ceremony at Resurrection church was enjoyed by Cindy's two "big" sisters, Tracy and Kelly, as well as by the proud parents and especially proud godfather Bill Shue and godmother Charlotte Harris. Maternal grandparents Fred and Irene Cwynar and paternal grandparents Len and Millie Stutz and paternal great- grandparents Zigmond and Anna Stuczynski were among the special guests at the party honoring little Cindy that was held at her home following the ceremony. Other guests in addition to Uncle John and Aunt Sharon Gacek were Aunt Barbara Cwynar, great-aunts Helen Mellan and Jean Dovanski. The "little people" who enjoyed the fun at Tracy and Kelly's home were Jay and Antionette Gacek and Tricia Shue. Everyone had a most enjoyable afternoon and were happy to be included in the festivities of Cindy Linnane's special day! A REUNION OF SORTS! Penny Treadwell journeyed to Wheeling Tuesday afternoon to join three former Skokie neighbors in a reunion of sorts! Everyone has moved and traveled to different areas over the years and they decided to get together for a delicious luncheon that they all enjoyed. The gals that gathered for the afternoon of fun along with Penny are Pearl Kaplan, Pearl Frankel and Shiela Gold. MARYLAND VISITOR Eleanor and Clare Hearle were the happy grandparents who were visited by their granddaughter recently. Nancy Matthews traveled from Maryland with her friend Joanne Moling to visit her grandparents and her former friends who still live here in Lakeland Park. The girls enjoyed their three day visit but I'm sure Nancy's parents Bob and Jessie Matthews will be glad when they return home to Maryland! HOSPITALIZED At the press deadline Sue Wallace is still a patient at McHenry hospital and has been undergoing a series of tests. Sue told me that of all weekends to get sick she picked a fun one! Her parents Mr. and Mrs. Leo Bujak were visiting from Winona Lake, Ind., and Mike and Sue had planned much visiting with Nancy and Randy Bon ess and Wayne and Gail Ostrom and their children from Hanover Park. The guests still came to town but instead of seeing Sue at home they visited her at the hospital. Sue, we sure hope you'll be home and feeling fine soon. VISIT BABY! John and Sharon Gacek were happy that Dennis Kurowski and his wife, Bernice, were able to visit last weekend and see the newest member of their family. Uncle Dehnis and Aunt Bernice were thrilled with little Antionette Lynn and also enjoyed playing with her big brother, Jay. Sunday Sharon's dad, Edmond Kurowski, and his wife, Dorothy, drove out to visit their new grandchild. They even baby sat while John, Sharon and Jay tried their hand at fishing. Everyone had a nice visit and were especially pleased that "Mother Nature" was so nice for the holiday weekend. BUSY WEEKEND My family and I had a fun filled * holiday weekend. Saturday friends Ray and Rita Wilson drove out for a visit from St. Charles and joined us in a spaghetti dinner. They seemed to enjoy their first visit to our town almost as much as we enjoyed having them.
