There's the occasional, or in some cases, frequent, trip that most businessmen find ne cessary to take. That means a lot . of suitcases have to be packed for either the over night trip for that important meeting or the longer trips for lengthy conferences, con ventions or well-deserved vacations. With Father's Day in the wings, here's what to do to give the travelin' man in your family a boost when it's time to pack up. By the way, one thought ful gesture that doesn't have to be confined to a special occasion is to make sure his usual travel toiletry bag with comb, brush, shampoo, elec tric shaver, pre-shave lotion and other grooming essen tials is always together and ready to go. A Remington shaver is extra-special. Be fore packing the shaver, give it a quick cleaning with Blasta-Clean cleaner and lubricator to get it working smopthly for those longer* trip?. . As! a special gift surprise for this Father's Day, pre sent him with a special "sur vival" bag for longer trips. Pack it with those "seren dipity" items he might very well wish he had with him, but that are usually not in cluded in the list of neces sities to pack. Choose a brightly colored, eye-catching case and fill it with such medical items as a tube of first-aid cream and some adhesive bandages. A small bottle of aspirin and some antacid tablets are a good idea in addition to ex tras of any prescription med icines. A small tube of sham poo might come in handy, too. And speaking of extras, tuck in such useful items as replacement blades and a clipper attachment for his Remington electric shaver to insure good grooming away from home. If your man carries a small notebook with him for jot ting notes, expenses or sales strategies, you could add some extra refill pads and a mechanical pencil to the survival bag. Make sure the pencil has an eraser, es pecially if he's fond of cross word puzzles. Rubber bands and a roll of transparent tape are two items that are very useful, but not very of ten thought of. How many times has he put on a suit and started looking for a clothes brush and how many times has he remembered to pack one? A small, but good quality clothes brush with good stiff bristles is an item he's sure to appreciate. Other small items that can make themselves useful are an opener for cans and bot tles, clippers for an occas ional torn finger- or toenail, mtse$ SM0RCAS60RD * PUB WHY NOT TREAT DAD TO DINNER? Thanks to Women's Lib, many men are now sewing their oWn but tons and enjoying a new sense of achievement. Unless you know to the fcontrary, include a needle and some thread. Fathers in History A famous number that has "much ado" with a dad is 3,224; this is the number of performances given of the longest - running Broadway play. "Life With Father" -- a theatrical event inspired by real-life father Clarence Day. Other famous literary fathers have included Ham let's sire (who put his son in such an awful dilemma by requesting him to re venge his murder) and King Lear ("How sharper than a serpent's tooth is an un grateful child!") Then there was a father whose very name calls up visions of luxury. But his children -- and later his grandchildren -- were given an allowance of 25 cents a week, and required to save 10$ and give 10% to charity! The name of this patriarch: John D. Rockefeller. Praising Dad is nothing new. One of the Ten Com mandments is "Honor thy Father." t • Ancient Egyptians consid ered disrespect to one's father one of the Seven Deadly Sins.
