PAGE 8 SUPPLEMENT TO McHENRY PLAINDEALER, - FRIDAY, JUNE 7, 1974 Chain Saws Solve Sift Problem For Football Flayers' Wives The question which poses a problem for many women throughout the country at this time of year is what to give their husbands for Father's Day. The problem was solved for four wives of profession al football players recently when they attended the first annual Pro Football Ten nis Championships at Lake Havasu City, Arizona. During their visit, they dropped in at the McCulloch Chain Saw factory and were pleasantly surprised to dis cover a Father's Day gift that would benefit the entire family all year long. The object of their atten tion was a Mini Mac 30 chain saw, which weighs just eight and a half pounds, fea tures a 12-inch bar and chain with automatic oiling and has a manufacturer's sug gested retail price of under one hundred dollars. "I didn't know a chain saw could be so easy to use," said Lynn Nobis, wife of linebacker Tommy Nobis of the Atlanta Falcons. "We've really needed a way to get firewood this year." Kim Sellers, whose hiis- band, Ron, is a wide receiv er for the Miami Dolphins, had a chain saw project al ready in mind. "We plan to extend our planked terrace at home and we can build planter boxes out of the left over lumber." "Ill use it, too," declared Karen Johnson, whose hus band, Ron, is the star run ning back for the New York Giants. "We're just decorat ing our new home and the chain saw will be perfect for cutting boards for wall systems." Mary Lamonica, wife of Oakland Raiders quarter back Daryle Lamonica, was even more enthusiastic. "I can hardly wait to get home and try it out," she said. The Lamonicas have a re sort home in California's Sierra foothills. "Well be sure to have a good supply of firewood on hand all the time now," Mary said. All four ladies agreed it would tax their patience to keep the Mini Mac out of sight until time for their husbands' Father's Day surprise. "Projects" and crafts-hob bies require good tools. What better gift for Father than one or more tools. AND HANDLE BUDGET MORE EASILY It's hard enough keeping track of expenses these days with inflation cutting fa at every turn. But if your fam ily money system is haphaz ard, the task becomes even more difficult. One way the money man ager can get a grip on the problem is to tackle it in a systematic, business - like way, with written budgets and even ledger books. It's important to keep track of exactly where the money goes. The best way to do this kind of, thing is to^pet up a little at-home. office. More an^l more people are doing it these days. If you have room for a separate desk, that's perfect. But a nice wide bureau top will do just as nicely. If your Dad doesn't have desk accessories, a Matina desk set by the 3M Company would make a perfect Fath er's Day Gift. Dad will love any of the 16 handsome, yet practical items that have the masculine look of hand-tool ed leather but none of the cares. The Matina finish re sists stains and scratches and can be wiped clean with just a damp cloth. And items like the attractive postage scale are especially handy now that postal rates have gone up again! Certain traditions are be ing outmoded. Today in the U.S. there is a tendency to play down respect to parents. Ironically to some, the old grandfather is still much revered in the People's Re public of China. He does not hold the patriarchal role of imperial times but it is reported by those who vis ited this great land with the President that family life in mainland China treats the elders with respect .which our nation could emulate. Elderly fathers, were es pecially esteemed in Old China where, on their birth days, they were presented with silken longevity robes, embroidered with the Chin ese characters for "long life." •BELTS • BRIEF CASES • LEATHER WALLETS AMERICAN T0URISTER- F0R THE MAN WHO HAS EVERYTHING BUT NOTHING TO CARRY IT IN.
