Chuck Weingart, McHenry, was one of the charter members. All four will have prominent parts in this Thursday night's twentieth annual dairy banquet at the Woodstock Moose lodge. (Don Peasley Photography from History Gallery) Checkerboard Squares Enjoy Picnic In Park A picnic in the park on a clear summer evening is always fun, but when a wiener roast, music, a (aller and square dancing are added, it becomes a very special evening. The Checkerboard Squares gathered together for their first summer event Wednesday evening, June 19, in McHenry city park. The club is looking forward to the next special evening in the city park, which will be a free Install New Officers Past Presidents Club Installation of officers was held at a recent meeting of the McHenry County Past dance Friday evening, July 12, from 8 to 11 p.m., sponsored by the McHenry Chamber of Commerce. This will be part of the big yearly Marine day celebration. Hundreds of families of the Woodstock-McHenry - Crystal Lake area are expected to arrive at the McHenry Country club Sunday afternoon between 2 and 5 p.m., to say good-bye to the beloved pediatrician, who has been in practice in the area for nineteen years. Youngsters have been invited, so Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Schopp of McHenry will don their clown outfits to distribute lollipops to the crowd of "Dr. Griesbach's little people." And thereby hangs a tale. . , "During the past nineteen years, Dr. Griesbach has cared for all sixty-five of our foster children, as well as three of our own," remarks Mrs. Schopp. "Dr. Griesbach has seen us through a lot, so we'll miss him very much ~ especially since our youngest is still a child. Garden Club In Annual Meet The Garden club of Whispering Oaks held its annual meeting June 18 at the Community center. During the business meeting, it elected to become affiliated with the Garden Club of Illinois. After luncheon, Mrs. Floyd Seibert and Mrs., Philip Kjellgren, both of Rockford, spoke to the club on the many educational and interesting works the State Garden club is bringing to effect. Officers for the coming year are: Mrs. James Erickson, president; Mrs. William Forbes, vice-president; Mrs. James Fouse, treasurer and Mrs. Austin Smith, secretary. club members. Mrs. Pauline Horak served as auctioneer. The next meeting of the Presidents club will be held Aug. 5 instead of the regularly scheduled date, Sept. 5. This was necessary because of the Labor day holiday. A pot-luck picnic will be held in the garden of Mrs. Roy Seitz, Cary, at 11 a.m. Each member should bring her own table service and chair. "However, we know the new program he is instituting for handicapped children in die state of New York will be a fine achievement. We wish him great success." The Monroe Developmental program, which Dr. Griesbach will help to found is designed to help persons suspected of moderate, severe, and profound mental retardation from birth to 21 years of age. Dr. Griesbach will head a team consisting of 'other pediatricians and internists, a psychologist, social workers, physical and occupational therapists and a special- education teacher. 1 The farewell reception for Dr. Griesbach is being called " 'Lollipops and Roses" to include the presentation of roses to Dr. Griesbach's wife, Roslyn, by Girl Scouts and Candy Stripers from McHenry hospital. The party was organized by a group of mothers from Crystal Lake, Woodstock and McHenry. "We would like to have some indication of the number of families who will attend, in order to provide for the refreshments," Mrs. Newkirk concluded. "We are asking interested families to call their local telephone chairman, including the Pink Lady office, 385-2424, or Family Nursing office, 344-0499" Hold Annual Bargains Bizarre For Children At a recent meeting, the auxiliary for the Woodstock Children's home made plans for the fourth annual Bargains Bizarre. Co-chairwomen for this mid-summer event are Mrs. John Spurr and Mrs. John Bodnar. It will be held, as in years past, at the Lakewood village hall. The dates are Friday and Saturday, July 26 and 27. Unlike past years, storage space is very limited, and the auxiliary would appreciate donations being held, if possible, until the week preceding the sale. For those people needing to have their donations picked * up immediately, 385-3379. Please limit donations to easily resaleable items. The proceeds from Bargains Bizarre will go to aid children at the home in such areas as recreational outings, library facilities and redecoration. Guests are always welcome at the monthly meetings which are usually held in Crystal Lake the third Tuesday of every month. Anyone interested may call 459-4142.
